View Full Version : How Important Is Accurate Profile Information?

If you look at the birth date up in the upper right hand corner of my profile you will see 26 December 1991. Not coincidentally that is the last day of the Soviet Union. 21 years have passed since that date.

No that is not my personal birthdate. Frankly I would never post that type of personal information online. Websites want to know that you are over 18 or 21. That is why they ask for your birth date. So I duly give them a birth date. If the date also makes a political point or two so much the better.

I have forum members that have been bent out of shape when I tell them that I am in fact not 21 and demand that I tell them my actual age. Which to me is odd behavior coming from would-be revolutionaries. Revleft is emphatically not Facebook.

So what is your opinion about personal information posted here?

I think it's kind of weird to 1. demand an accurate birthdate and 2. link that to someone's revolutionary positions or whatever.

I've just left most of it blank. I added Toronto at some point because I'd made enough references to being from Toronto that it was no secret.

I'm not sure of official policy, but might be better to just make it N/A or private or none of your business. Just saw the silly back & forth. There are a lot of folks here that.

I think I will keep the date up there. Politically speaking 26 December 1991 was my political birth date. I was one of those that had hoped that the end of the Soviet Union would provide an opening for an upsurge of new radical politics. Well we know how it played out in reality. Sigh.
