Decided to register as I have been visiting this site for a while now.
We (in the 'west') live in a society too sick to continue, a society that wastes resources, wastes potential and most sickeningly of all, wastes lives. That society is not "broken", no, it works exactly as it was designed to. But it was not designed to work in the interests of the people. Reform of this disgusting system is impossible, only revolution can create real change. I desire radical, fundamental change. The end of wage slavery, societal division, organised religion, exploitation, 'capital' and war. I believe in the redistribution of wealth, the equitable division of resources, radical decentralisation of power (all power to the people!) economic democracy, direct democracy and the use of technology to set free those of us who toil in the most menial, degrading, labour intensive 'jobs'. There you have it. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this.

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

What are your political ideas? And what's the left scene like at your place?

Your comment about how this system wastes lives reminded me of the recent case of Anthony Stokes (http://www.alternet.org/dying-black-teen-denied-heart-transplant-due-partly-low-grades-and-trouble-law), a 15-year old Black teenager who only has six months to live unless he receives an emergency heart transplant. Apparently, his family has been told Anthony "doesn't qualify" for the procedure - namely because doctors think his history of low grades and 'run ins' with the law will make him 'non-compliant'.

It's sickening.

that's about the worst thing i have read in ages... wow. he's just a kid... i'm an organ donor, i think all bodies with usable organs should be harvested to save lives. that's tragic.

Hi, welcome to Revleft :)

Also, that news story is awful. How can someone not qualify for a transplant because they might not take their medication etc based on their history of low grades and brushes with the law? I'm sure most people would comply with medical stuff after a life-saving operation.

Thanks everyone.
The case of Anthony Stokes is truly shocking. I heard recently that rich Americans can now pay for an 'artificial' heart at the cost of $250,000. imagine! A quarter of a million for an artificial heart while kids in Africa die from diarrhea, preventable for about $3 a day.
I am from Northern Ireland so as you can imagine, the situation is not good. The working class is very deeply divided, more so than ever. Neither Unionism nor Irish nationalism offers any solution. Although I'm slightly encouraged to see large sections of grassroots Unionism moving further & further to the Left. This nasty little war will only end when the workers are united & all borders have been swept away.

I read that there have been riots in Belfast recently, do you know anything about that?

And yeah, the privileges enjoyed by the ruling-classes knows no bounds. While we scrape by they live in a world of (over)abundance.

Good news though (kinda) - doctors have reversed their decision not to put Anthony Stokes on the transplant list. Probably due to the outcry sparked by the blatant show of racism on the hospital's part. (I heard a few civil rights legal groups were planning on taking action as well, which likely forced the doctors to backtrack on their original rejection.)
