So, I've heard that this is observed internationally to some degree, but does anybody have any idea how much? Here in Canada significant numbers of prisoners (not limited to political prisoners / POWs) refuse work and food for the day. Thoughts? Anyone involved in local organizing?

Don't think anything happened here.

Was first involved in PJD in the 90s through the late Jim Campbell, a great great man. Not sure of the exact trajectory, but in essence he moved a far left anarchist paper into Prison News Service, which was by prisoners for prisoners. He worked as a hydro metre reader, organized the paper, and mailed and remailed it. Screws often found reasons to reject it, and Jim was very adept at reusing envelopes and stamps. I helped with a few mailings, but couldn't smoke that much chronic, debate political philosophy, and make sure the addresses were right! http://news.infoshop.org/article.php?story=2008jim-campbell

We should maybe talk to our friends in the movements and our communities and see if we can do something around Ashley Smith : http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/ashleysmith.html

That girl was murdered by the state. Sometimes we talk to people, and liberals will agree with statements like that, but I've said that flat out to conservatives, and they've agreed. Not that we'd plan to organize with conservatives, but...

The amount of money and calculation and coercion and bullying that went into killing that girl. Fucking bastards. Peace to the prison guards who argued against their bosses decisions. They been living in hell and good on them for telling the truth. But the rest of them? Scum scum scum. Bunch of the MDs tried to launch a law suit against the inquiry -- they might've been found guilty of malpractice. And their insurance rates would've gone up. Fuckers
