Any one who likes Stephen Fry is a reactionary and should be shot immediately.

He is a liberal. He's not revolutionary in the least. He also admits he is overly polite. He's a great actor & I admire his openness about his homosexuality & his mental illness. But he's an actor, not an activist.

^This. All of this.
I'm a huge fan of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, both liberals. I'm also quite fond of the guys on The Young Turks. They're all liberals to.
People will disagree with you. It's a fact of life.

People's critical faculties go out the window as soon as Stephen Fry opens his mouth -- He is a liberal hack, corporate stooge and a royalist. If he's not fawning after the royal family so he can get his knighthood, he is tweeting adverts for Apple and writing letters to David Cameron appealing to his good nature and telling him how much he respects him.
I used to be like you. But after this letter debacle, it is finally time to declare that Stephen Fry is rubbish.

But when those liberals actively cause damage, that's a different matter.
And if you people can't criticise people you like, then I think that is the greatest injustice here.

we MUST hate the non-activists.
Repeat after me.
we MUST hate the non-activists.
we must ACTIVELY hate the liberals and piss on their parade.
Fuck me, life would be seriously boring if I judged someone personally based on their politics. As it happens I find Fry a bit annoying as a comedian or whatever, bit overrated, I don't get the hype, but no need to really hate on the guy, he's kinda harmless and I respect his stand on mental illness and, however symbolic, his recent letter re: Russia &* the LGBT situation there.

Are you even serious right now? You mean the letter where he says how much respect he has for David Cameron and implies that the anti-working class, racist, homophobic Cameron is somehow a good natured person? Where he begs the state -- an institution that perpetuates heteronormative domination, not to mention is currently engaged in vile racist and anti-working class attacks, instigated no less than the good person he respects so much -- to resolve the issues of LGBTQ people? The letter in which he argues that the historical colonialist British state could have acted in our interests? The letter in which he ignores the decades of queer struggle as well as the the systems of domination that he has absolutely no fucking experience of, since he's a rich, privileged, public school educated toff.
This is a guy who condemned the August riots. Who is an advertisement for Apple, one of the most anti-working class companies in the world and who has his nose so far up the Royal Families ass he knows what the Queens fucking kidneys smells like...So he's witty and charming and knows how to tap into hipster adulation, so he gets to be your friend?
I'm not starting this thread to attack everyone who disagrees with me. I am here to attack Stephen Fry, a man who is firmly embedded in the British establishment; a millionaire servant for capitalism who calls for LGBTQ people to hand over the terrain of struggle to the very system that oppresses us while at the same time supporting an organisation that is openly transphobic.
Don't fucking patronise me! I've lived my whole conscious life struggling for queer liberation and I am telling you, as a gay man, that Stephen Fry not only denigrates that struggle he actively embodies everything that is fundamentally problematic for its success. So if you want to support and defend a man like that, then do so, but don't give me this holier-than-thou bullshit about "how boring it would be if I hated everyone" because it's nothing but the kind of privilege usually reserved for people who don't have a fucking clue. Fuck you!

Calm down, please. As I stated he's an actor. We cannot look to celebrities to be a voice for the working class because they aren't.
You state you are attacking Fry, & in just way, but do you really think he's going to care what some people on a leftist forum said? I'm betting the answer is no.
He is kissing ass in the letter & you as someone in the same country can be pissed off more so than us in the States. But your attack on Fry is now seeming an attack on those who see him as an actor & not a legit voice box.

I'll be in charge of how I respond to people, okay? Take your officious propositions about my mood and shove them up your ass.
As I stated he's an actor. We cannot look to celebrities to be a voice for the working class because they aren't.
Well I wasn't actually talking to you, was I? So what you did or did not state really has very little to do with anything.
You state you are attacking Fry, & in just way, but do you really think he's going to care what some people on a leftist forum said? I'm betting the answer is no.
Oh really? You think? And here I was wanting to collate all the responses from the thread so he could read them and form an opinion

And the fact that you think it's appropriate to kiss the ass of a racist, homophobic, anti-working class, privileged piece of shit like David Cameron only demonstrates that you are in need of re-evaluating your world view.

I never said appropriate, now did I?
I'm just trying to be tactful but I guess I'll be a bit of a jerk & be blunt: stop being such a jerk! People get what a kiss ass he is for writing that letter & how he's propagating this idiocy of "if I at least tell the government & publish it, the world will still love me". Your constant snarks at people just make them want to blow you off. I don't think you want that. Be angry. But stop being angry towards us when it's Fry you're pissed at.
I blew this letter off. It does nothing. Nothing. Not one damn thing in the whole situation. It's not a blip on the radar. Nothing.
