I'll start off by saying that I admire the works of journalists such as Ezra Klein, Joe Klein, Fareed Zakaria, Christopher Hitchens, and perhaps a few more. My favorite news magazine has got to be the Week. Even though it's columns and newspaper article summaries are short in length for the most part, it's still intellectually stimulating and refreshing. Plus, there are the funny parts as well... What publications and journalists do other leftists admire?

The Nation and MoJo (Mother Jones) for me. Obviously Chomsky I like and Will Self can be pretty good too. Robert Fisk and Francis Wheen.

When it comes to journalism Glenn Greenwald is awesome, Naomi Klein is too, even if they don't politically align themselves with communism.

Matt Taibbi and Mark Ames. Both of them put out The Exile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_eXile) back in the day. Imagine the bastard children of I.F. Stone, Gore Vidal and Hunter S. Thompson. Today Taibbi can be found in Rolling Stone while Ames is at nsfwcorp (https://www.nsfwcorp.com/)

Mother Jones is one of my personal favorites. I also occasionally take a peak at Reason, which is a bourgeoisie libertarian publication that is really good on civil liberty stuff (if you ignore the subtle gold-buggery).

+1 on hunter s. thompson.

politically speaking, my favourite investigative journalist is john pilger for his unapologetic and lengthy career in exposing various atrocities around the world, including vietnam, cambodia (especially the US involvement in setting up pol pot), iraq, burma, israel/palestine and others. his latest documentary on journalism itself was fantastic and shows what a load of bullshit that much journalism amounts to, not that we didn't know but still. always good to see media like the bbc get rumbled.

I've read some stuff from NSFWcorp that I found interesting. There was a longish one about water usage in California and the role of large landowners which was pretty eye opening for me. After reading that it made me realize really how little we have in the way of investigative journalism in larger, more respectable press. A friend of mine on gave me a member link to look at it (https://www.nsfwcorp.com/dispatch/resnicks-valley/c4e8545bca92ee2f79a0bc5246eaaff0c9042ae8/).
