note, the title of the video was the name of the debate, what the man actually argues is a lot more nuanced.

The look on the faces of those islamophobes is just priceless. He's a good debater, wish we had a Marxist version of him instead of Harpal Brar representing us at every Oxford debate

Mehdi Hasan is a bit of a nutter. You can watch video of him from a few years ago how he thought of people as cattle.

I didn't think his argument was very convincing or a good debater. He failed to name a state that applies Islamic law that is tolerant while claiming that others are painting Islamic law w/ a broad brush.

What about democratic states that are pre dominantly Islamic? Indonesia is the most populated Islamic country in the world, turkey is also a mostly enlighted modern nation.

Indonesia is similar to the United States w/ respect to federalism; it has provinces that apply Islamic law, while others that don't - or only for family law.

The province where Islamic law is applied is very intolerant. By intolerant, I mean the rule of law, rather than the people.

Turkey, on the other hand, is a completely different story altogether. They don't have any region that applies Islamic law.

The states where Islamic law is fully applied are the least tolerant. The only competing version of Islamic law that is tolerant and pluralistic is in Mehdi's head.
