It's been an interesting past few weeks for Company of Heroes 2. Following a scathing review by "Badcomedian" (an online game reviewer), the game's metacritic and other similar pages have been bombarded with angry reviews, often from Russian gamers, criticizing the game's approach in the single-player campaign. The game essentially takes a very cynical look at the Eastern Front to the point of demonizing the Red Army, including familiar Hollywood popularizations of blocking squads, human wave, and weaponless soldiers thrown in to the fray. This seems to have greatly offended more nationalistic Russians, and I can see why considering how essentially apolitical CoH I was by comparison.

A lot of this actually doesn't involve the game play at all, so I suppose this would be useful for other players who may have played the game to chime in about the other aspects of the game.

Company of heroes 1 did not have the greatest story either, the writers went with a bland an unimaginative story line, same with this game which has a cliche way of the characters narrating the story and also the message is pretty close to stupid.

They put out a political point because they though it was uncontroversial and what everyone, especially western people believed of the Russian military and its tactics.

Sad really because I think the game is fun, especially multi-player and the story though with a poor story has fun missions albeit being too easy.
