The real Fabians

I'm new to this forum so i am sure that this subject has been discussed to death, but one thing that strikes me is that as a 16 year old whom obviously have a lot of contact with other 16 year old that when asked what their political alignment is the vast majority said centre to left wing.
The context for this was during an English lesson in which we were discussing the socialist book "An inspector calls" in which we would have to answer questions on in the summer exam of which we have now completed, our English teacher gave us a 45 minute lesson on politics due to obviously a lack of understanding by my fellow students (not all but most).
I must add that our teacher openly stated she new nothing about politics and avoids the subject herself and had to research political alignment etc on her own before conducting the lesson. The only thing she told us was that the left support a more equal society and the right support a more heredity one and showing us two extremes , communism and fascism.
What may be the most surprising is that firstly we had read the book prior to this lesson and may have been affected by its obvious and clear bias towards socialism, however most actually did not enjoy the book. Also during this I lived in the Conservative party heartlands, the constituency of it's lead David Cameron's constituency, Witney,Oxfordshire. The students themselves may not have bben affected by their parents own political views yet so it begs the question, if you look at the clear basics of what each political side wants and the majority of the youth supports leftism and equality are we humans naturally left wing?
