American Perversion of Democracy in Italy

this topic was posted to show that the U.S does not really care about democracy just its own intrests eg money, control etc...

From Rogue State
by William Blum:

In 1947, the US forced the Italian government to dismiss its Communist and Socialist cabinet members in order to receive American economic aid. The following year and for decades thereafter, each time a combined front of the Communists and Socialists, or the Communists alone, threatened to defeat the US-supported Christian Democrats in national elections, the CIA used every (dirty) trick in the book and trained its big economic, political and psychological-warfare guns on the Italian people, while covertly funding the CD candidates.

And it worked. Again and again. This perversion of democracy was done in the name of saving democracy in Italy.

American corporations also contributed many millions of dollars to help keep the left from a share of power.

Of course the US doesn't care about democracy, democracy to the US is just another excuse to get away with things without pissing off the world community. The US is a Merchant Oligarchy,it only cares about the money.

really, i thought of it as two ind. gov'ts: one the "real" gov't with the legislatre, etc. who are puppets; and the corporate gov't, the media and the military, those who are imperialistic and militaristic. Im writing an essay on this, just my two cents...

Of course, the United States doesn't care about democracy in the world,

no country does.

Every country today is only looking out for their own self interest.

Many of them just use the shield of a higher purpose to mask their imperialism and internationalist aims.

"The Soviet Government is the only Government in the world which is unhesitatingly championing the unity and independence, freedom and sovereignty of Turkey and Persia, Afghanistan and China The oppressed masses sympathize with the Soviet Union because they regard it as their ally in the cause of emancipation from imperialism."
J.V. Stalin, Concerning the International Situation, 1953

"What Uncle Sam Really Wants" by Noam Chomsky outlines some of the 'best' (or 'worst', depending on how you look at it) examples of the U$ trampling on democracy abroad (and at home, though not in as much depth). The U$ trampled the only opposition to the fascists in Greece (the worker- led communists). Just putting that example out there.
