Che once mentioned that following the war there was "a miserable peace". This got me to thinking, what could have been done to keep the peace in a more orderly manner?

I've heard arguements that rather than dividing Germany we should have demilitarized it and made it neutral. Would that have helped in the slightest? There would still be a considerable Communist and Capitalist sphere of influence in Europe, not to mention the idea that both sides would probably still try to make grabs at Germany's industry.

So I ask Che Lives members, what would you have done to make Europe a better place following the war?

And by the way, I know the US totally fucked up in Asia, you'll get no argument from me, but for fun I'll include Asia into the whole mix.

I'm not trying to start a debate, I just want to hear ideas from board members as this question has perplexed me for some time now.

Well, the U.S could have not enforced the Truman doctrine.

The USSR could have been a bit less Imperialistic.

Well, its not just about after the war, it's also about durring the war.

Britain spent far too much on the war and so was bankrupt by its end, had they been more frugal, the United
States would not have felt as needed to interfere in Europe.

If the US hadn't cut the USSR out of Italy, Stalin would have been more open to a multilateral east Europe.

If Stalin hadn't taken Czechloslovakia, Truman wouldn't have reacted as he did.

A split Germany, however, was pretty much unavoidable, otherwise we most likely would have seen another nationalism movement.

But in the end though it's mostly just small things

The fact is that a conflict between the USSR and the US was inevitable from the start

When you have two opposing states like that, each with imperialist aims......
