ADDRESS TO THE YOUNG PIONEERS AND YOUTHS, ATTENDING THE TRADITIONAL NEW YEAR MEETING
- December 30, 1974 -
Dear Young Pioneers and Friends,
We want to thank you for the good wishes you have addressed to me and to the entire Party and people, on the ocasion of New Year.
Your wishes-voicing your feelings of love of your parents, of those who through their work do their very best for the flourishing of Socialist Romania, so that your life, that of the children, of young people, of the entire people should become ever more prosperous, ever more happy-are wishes filling our hearts with joy; at the same time, they oblige us, those entrusted by the Party and people with the responsibility to secure the raising of our homeland, upon new peaks of progress and civilization, to do our utmost so as to implement the Programme endorsed by the Eleventh Congress of the Party.
We are concluding a year, in which we scored remarkable results in economic and social development, a year in which important events took place on an internal plane: we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the overthrow of fascist dictatorship, a historic act, which opened up the path leading to the freedom and welfare of our people, to the independence and sovereigntyof the homeland; the Eleventh Congress took place, which endorsed the Programme for the achievment of the multilaterally developed socialist society and Romania's advancement towards communism, for building up a new life, the golden future of our people- Communism, towards which the entire mankind aspires.
All the results obtained are the fruit of the work of your parents-of the workers, peaseants, intellectuals, of all the working people, irrespective of nationality. Therefore, now, at the end of the year, our first thought must be directed towards all working people, towards the entire people; let us thank them for the way they have been working and let us wish them further successes, in the coming year!
Undoubtly, all these results became possible thanks to the clear, Marxist-Leninist programme and to the leading of our entire activity by the Party. Consequently, we must simultaneously address our good wishes to the communists, to the Party, which pools together the efforts of the entire people, of our nationin the work and struggle for a free, prosperous and happy life.
The youth of our homeland,the young pioneers, the children of this country also made their contribution to these achievements, not only in point of thought and good-wishing, but also with their work; each of you here present has done something-no matter how small-so as to make a contribution to all these achievments. You have studied, but you also have worked, and thus, you, all the pioneers, all the children of our homeland, have been participants side by side, with your parents, in all the achievments taking place in this country. That is why our present wishes, those of the Party and State leadership are likewise addressed to you, youngsters, children, young pioneers, the entire youth and all the children from this country; we wish you to enjoy good health, to grow up, to study, to acquire the best, the latest and the most daring gains of science and human knowledge! It is only thus that you will become good citizens of our Socialist homeland, and many of you, good communists, the builders and leaders of tomorrow of the multilaterally developed socialist society, of communist society in Romania. I wish you happiness, to study, to be always proud and dignified, to love the homeland, the Party, to love your parents, to understand that it is only by work, by study, by full unity that we can secure the happy future of our socialist homeland!
Besides that satisfactions we derive from work our work, on a national plane, there are those resulting from the international activity of our Party and State. During this year which has come to a close, we have scored big successes in the development of collaboration with the socialist countries, with the developing countries, with all the states of the world. Now at the end of 1974, Romania has a larger number of friends, on this planet, than she had at the beginning of this year, and this is the result of our policy of collaboration, of peace, of this struggle for a juster and better world, in which each nation should be master over its destinies, should develop freely and independently.
On an international plane, there is likewise much to be done, the solution of the complex issues requires solidarity, collaboration, unity among all the progressive, anti-imperialist forces, among all people, among all nations, who wish to live freely, to build their life according to their own will.
That is why from this small festivity of ours, I would like us to address all the peoples, our wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity, the wish to score ever bigger successes, along the path of building a new international economic and political order, in the struggle for a just, righteous peace, throughout the world.
With these thoughts, I thank you, dear young friends, pioneers, and children! I wish you, once again, from all my heart, happiness, health, and an even better and more prosperous life! Grow up as really free citizens of our socialist homeland, study and always serve the Party and the homeland! Don't you ever forget that nothing is more valuable and dignified than the people, the homeland and the Party!
