Hello everyone. Currently I'm a college student in the U.S. majoring in physics. Outside of school, I don't really have much of a life. By that I mean no partying or going out to clubs or whatever. When it comes to how I spend my free-time, I prefer keeping up with current events by reading magazines like The Week and Time. I'm also a big time debater, and recently I've been on a certain white supremacist **cough cough** uh, I mean nationalist forum debating white supremacy. My goal is not to troll or to be annoying, but to try to patiently debate with those guys. I'll post some arguments here for fellow Revlefters to use in real life:

1) Former power-lifter Mark Henry dispels the myth that only white men are capable of being strong

2) Poor white boys doing badly on GCSEs in Britain

3) Columbus Ohio study examining crime rates between whites and blacks

Having said all this, I should let you all know that I'm not 100% liberal. I do have differing opinions on affirmative action, the death penalty, political correctness, and maybe a few other issues here and there. I am still in favor of gay marriage, abortion rights, separation of church vs state, and leftist economic policies; so no worries there.

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

I suppose we'll be hearing from your political viewpoints in more concrete detail over time.

Whats so great about America?

The fact that gay marriage is becoming more acceptable, and that religiosity is declining. And of course, who doesn't like the Colbert Report and South Park?

Religiosity is clearly not declining. The fact that the majority of Americans still worship the US like a cult and will vote between two right-wing neoliberal parties that are mirror-images of one another because they have a difference in marriage policy is prime evidence for this.

Welcome to the board.

Welcome, however I do believe you have a misunderstanding.
This is not a forum for liberals, it is a forum for leftists, i.e socialists. Your views would be considered ultra right compared to this forums population. Modern liberalism is nothing more than reformism, a force that seeks to make an exploitative system acceptable.

Not even that. Reformism is the view that capitalism can be reformed into communism. Some liberals believe this, but they are a minimal minority.

Well, If I had to describe my economic views, I believe in Marxist economic policies for the vastly most part. I also share some views with libertarians; namely freedom of speech, religion, right to privacy, and also the right to form a militia. Then again, many libertarians might go all out and say that they support completely unrestricted gun ownership, so if that's the case, they are crazy.

Sorry, I intensely dislike South Park, although I do think Steve Colbert is funny. As far as being "great" the US is the only developed country without national healthcare and about 40 million people (including myself) have no health insurance. Obamacare, essentially a right wing bailout of the insurance industry developed by the Heritage Foundation, will make things worse, not better.

Also I shouldn't have to mention that the US is an imperialist monster, founded on genocide of the native population, which has and is wreaking incredible damage though out the planet. The US has made El Salvador, Guatemala, Hondorus, Iraq, and Haiti into virtual charnel houses and has wrecked incredible damage on Chile, Vietnam, Iran, Russia (enforcing neoliberalism), Bahrain, Libya, Syria, and many other places.

Throughout the past decade or so US has consistently ranked the lowest on surveys of "happiness" and overall well being of its population.

I am not totally endorsing their politics but you may want to read Chris Hedges, Noam Chomskey, Howard Zinn, and Jeremy Scahill.

But hey, we have same sex marriage in about a dozen states so I guess its okay.

Going out to parties and getting drunk is stupid and its a shame that everyone thinks that that is what university is about.

It isn't lol.

I never engaged in any of the cr*p either and so just wanted to let you know your not the only one lol, because honestly, when all your friends are heading out or getting drunk every weekend it can feel that way!

Anyway, welcome to the boards. I'm new here myself.

The fact that a large portion of American belives mankind is a few thousand years old, there was a talking snake etc and they want that taught in schools is pretty sad for arguably the leading nation of the Western World.

I actually watch the O Reilly factor ... its good. Sometimes you need to let all your anger out. Colbert is great at taking the p*ss out of Fox lol.

Sorry, I intensely dislike South Park,

South Park IMO is one of the smartest political critiques on American society currently on air.

Matt and Trey are excellent at highlighting the stupidity of both of the major American Parties and also the typical 'American' mindset.

That's not me bashing America btw. More countries could do with that kind of honest and refreshing look in the mirror.

Thanks for the names, btw have you heard of the book How to Succeed at Globalization? It's basically a political graphic novel written by a Hispanic political cartoonist named Rafael Barajas.

Leftists reject the notion that "libertarians" in the American sense of the word are actually libertarians. Capitalism is inherently authoritarian in nature because it establishes hierarchy, commodifies labor power, compels the state to initiate imperialist wars, and according to Adam Smith "makes men into creatures as stupid and ignorant as it is possible for a human creature to be".

Also, what is wrong with unrestricted gun ownership? Shouldn't working people have that sort of liberty?

I'm guessing you're an anarchist? Perhaps you could message me more about your beliefs. I'm somewhat more knowledgeable about Marxism than about other Leftist ideologies.

When I think about this type of scenario, all I can imagine is chaos. I don't want crazy people going out and tearing up the place for whatever reason. Having said that, I am in fact a strong supporter of local militias, going so far as to support neighborhood militias; or I guess watch groups if you want to use that term instead. Anyone would be eligible for membership in any such militia, whether it be at the neighborhood, city, county, or state level, AS LONG AS they had the proper training and background check.

Welcome and have fun with the debates you already started with your intro :p
Also there are great things about America yes...but there also some damn terrible things that make cringe.
