I'm a 25 years old mechanical engineer writing from an industrial town near São Paulo, Brazil. I always considered myself a leftist, even though I never really understood what it really meant. But, if the middle class here was so-called right-wing, I simply couldn't be one of them. So it was only natural.
Things in Brazil are not bad, unemployment is at an all time low, real wages are increasing and innequality falling. But inflation is pretty high, even if somewhat under control.
We had here in June some massive protests, sparkled by the police violence trying to repress a small protest demanding free transportation in São Paulo. The military police, answering the right-wing press and the Governor, used violence against these guys and things got ugly quicly. The funny thing is, the public opinion was on the side of the protesters, which forced the press to radically change their opinion overnight, doing so shamelessly. And then, the protests got massive, with people from every political corner, demanding every possible thing. Now things are quiet again.
I got here while reading some comments about Capital on Amazon, and someone mentioned this forum. So one day I visited and was really impressed by the ammount of information you have here! So I registered and was forced to post this introduction to keep my account alive.
This is basically it, I'm sure I will learn a great deal here.
