Anyone here looking forward to the release of Rome total war 2?

It looks cool fro the screens I've seen, but honestly I haven't kept too much track of it. Not a slam against the game, just I don't have as much time as I used to for those things.

I'm super excited. I'm a big total war dude and Rome is my second favorite (after Medieval II, which perfected the formula set out in Rome, imo). Don't think I'll be able to afford it on release though.

I've actually never bought a game on its release

Yes! I've been playing all kinds of modifications of Medieval II, which I've modified further myself (and just a few days ago lost when my computer crashed), for a couple of years now. Medieval, I always play as the Byzantines.
I have the original Rome, but it's a bit primitive so I'm really looking forward to this.

^I play Stainless Steel. And just recently I downloaded Invasio Barbarorum 2: Africa Vandalorum.
I probably won't be getting Rome II, since there are so many amazing mods for Kingdoms available and in development, all for free. There was just a new mod released with a setting in classical antiquity with the Roman Republic, Carthage, etc. I'll probably get it after I complete a campaign as the Visigoths.

My favourite mods to MTW2 are Broken Crescent, Sicilian Vespers, and Pro Deo Et Rege, especially the two latter ones. There were still some things that didn't feel quite right about them for a pedantic mind like mine, looking for absolute historical accuracy, so I looked around for advice at the Total War Center or what that forum is called, and started editing the scripts myself (unfortunately editing the maps is too difficult for me).
I was really hopeful of this mod that was announced to come for ages ago, called Latinokratia - about post 4th crusade Byzantium - but unfortunately the guy who was going to make it seems to have lost interest. That would have been so awesome. :(

I am like that too. I'd love to see more mods being made, but oh well...
I think the developers fucked up when they set the campaign from the high middle ages to the early modern era - I mean, you missed the whole period from the 600s to the 1100s, and when you get to the colonization of the new world and pike and shot warfare, the middle ages is over.
In Kingdoms I would have liked to see a Norman conquest campaign (or, alternatively, a Viking era one or something around the time of king Arthur or something), an early Reconquista campaign, a hundred years war era campaign, and a decent Crusades campaign but instead we got a watered down campaign about the British isles in general, a campaign about the Christianization of the Baltics (really?), a frustratingly simplified Crusades campaign, and a campaign that isn't even set in the middle ages. If they had to go into the 1500s, a Renaissance campaign would have worked, but no.

Sicilian Vespers has a Dark Age campaign, iirc it starts at the end of the 9th century with the Macedonian dynasty in power in Byzantium, Bulgaria dominating the Balkans, and before the forming of the future nation states in the west is complete.
Might be interesting with an even earlier one, preferably starting around the expansion of Islam or so. Maybe there is one but I've missed it, personally I find the late middle ages more fascinating but to each his own. :)
I agree that the campaigns in Kingdoms sucked and especially the Crusades campaign had a very historically inaccurate Komnenian dynasty in Byzantium.. Argh.
Maybe I should make an effort to edit it but there is never time anymore.

Have you guys ever played Empire Total war?
The graphics are good but the gameplay is nothing compared to Rome total war or Medieval Total war II

I can't wait, but I'm afraid I won't be able to run it on my PC. Canyourunit says that I can but I doubt it. I can run Shogun 2, fall of the samurai and that's pushing it.

Empire was pretty good imo. It's no Medieval II or Rome, but it was a fun fresh perspective and added a lot of depth and difficulty to the game.

I hated the first Rome, primarily because I don't think that the map mechanics complemented the game. I much prefered the chess piece style of the original two games.

So, after my hard drive crashed and I lost all the previous Medieval 2 modifications i had made - very annoying - I'm currently (literally as I'm typing this) re-downloading Sicialian Vespers mod. Having something as unusual as a totally free day, I'm going to try and make the effort of recreating my preferred version of the Late era campaign. :)

I've been sticking to the Europa Barbarorum mod for the original RTW. Now that is fun!
