For any Australians (or anybody following the issue) Refugees who arive by boat will no longer have any chance of being settled in Australia instead being resettled in Papua New Guinea regardless of whether or not they are found to be genuine asylum seekers.

I really wonder how people here can still view the Labour Party as "left wing" and progressive when it goes about creating a policy like this which is even more reactionary than what Tony Abbot and the conservatives have been proposing.

From now on, any asylum-seeker who arrives in Australia by boat will have no chance of being settled in Australia as refugees," Mr Rudd said. "Asylum-seekers taken to Christmas Island will be sent to Manus and elsewhere in Papua New Guinea for assessment of their refugee status."

I think there is no socialist part that can be genuine left-wing movement for longer period of time in capitalist conditions.
