Since a lot of people are interested in the nature of China, Wang Shaoguang is one of the prominent left-wing intellectuals in China. In this lecture he talks about the way the Chinese political economy has evolved over the past several decades, and he argues that in recent years the Chinese state has become more active in promoting the welfare of ordinary people.

It seems to me that China eviscerated most of the gains of the revolution in the 1980s and 1990s and having become a "richer" country they are now trying to create a European style welfare state. What do you guys think?
