Hi all,

Revolutionary greetings from an Irish Socialist Republican.

An unrepentant Marxist- Leninist and proletarian internationalist although I bear no sectarian feelings to any other revolutionary ideology and am willing to discuss the merits of all.

I run a new blog based in Ireland aimed at re-popularising Socialist Republicanism and discussing revolutionary theory. You can read it at towardsasocialistrepublic. BlogSpot .ie

looking forward to the discussions.

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

Why a ML though? I'm somewhat curious about what led you there.

Hi there.

I'm new here as well and from Northern Ireland ... so welcome to us both I guess lol :)

I've always dislike how the Marxism of Ireland is wrapped in Nationalism.

(That's not an attack on you btw lol just a general thought)

I just believe in Marxism and think that anything that contains a whiff of Nationalist sentiments is bound to end in disaster or isn't truly revolutionary.

That after all (at least IMO) is one of the reason's why Stalin failed. Because he bound up (a flawed) version of Marxism with Russian Nationalism and started to become fixated on things like reclaiming all the territories the Tsar's lost.

There's a great film you should check out called The Wind that Shakes the Barley by Ken Loach. I think its great at showing how entagled Left Wing politics in Ireland is with the National Question.

Anyway, welcome, I'll definately check out your blog.

Hey

I'm also a socialist republican from Ireland and a ML.

The biggest issue facing the working class in Ireland is the British imperial presence, therefore all revolutionaries have to be involved in the struggle for national liberation.

That's not nationalism it's genuine socialism.

Hmm, not necessarily.

I would actually be of the opinion that Northern Ireland now constitutes enough of a seperate social formation compared to England/The Republic of Ireland that it needs its own specific Communist/Socialist Party to carry out the struggle on behalf of its own Proletariat and its own government.

I think that the struggle for National Liberation is problematic as removing the British presence in Ireland only to then switch to Dublin would not be the best outcome for the North.

Unfortunately, for better or worse, because of our unqiue history the North of Ireland deserves to govern itself internally, and then have relations with Ireland and Britain based on A. Free Internal/Domestic sovereignty B. Equality.

This would be a worthy topic for its own thread I think, if somebody wants to start it.

I can't agree to that at all.

The working class in the north face exactly the same issues as the working class in the south. Although divided by false divisions imposed by British imperialism the interests of the irish working class lies together.

I would recommend you read the Connolly walker controvesy available on the James Connolly Internet archive which shows how the interests of the irish working class lie in uniting.
