Hey, fellow leftist scum. I'm Connor, and I'm a Communist. I've been a member for almost three weeks but haven't really made myself post anything until just now. I joined with the intention of articulating my thoughts for a potential political blog, but I'm really not so sure about that project anymore.
A bit about me, using the Political Profile thread as a guide: I'm located in St. Augustine, Florida, right along the beach. As for class background, my parents have worked all kinds of jobs, but I've always enjoyed a level of financial security. I'd put my background in the "labor aristocracy" in that case. I'm mostly Irish by blood, perhaps with any level of Western European swimming around in my veins from my mother's side.
I support a vanguard party in the sense that socialist revolution will need to be organized along militant lines. I think participation in parliamentarian bodies, while ultimately futile in overthrowing bourgeois power, can put pressure on bourgeois governments and win concessions, however temporary, for the exploited and oppressed. I feel the same way about trade unions, more or less; they can be put to good use, but they function within an inherently exploitative system. I don't think focalism is inherently at odds with Leninism and it seems to have worked in the experience of Comrade Guevara. I believe central planning of production and distribution can work and has worked, and I feel it is the method of planning most suited to a socialist mode of production. As for "terrorism," I can't condone that which creates terror for the oppressed and exploited, but what isn't "terroristic" that challenges ruling class power? Even that which only threatens bourgeois hegemony can be presented in such a way that sews fear among the proletariat. I support national liberation movements, and I believe non-proletarian classes have their strategic roles to play.
What is the most important event in the world today? There isn't any single event that I think is more important than all others, but I'm especially interested in the situation on the Korean Peninsula. If I could travel backwards in time and play a role in some historical event, I'd like to be a part of the Paris Commune or the Limerick Soviet; I love microcosmic economies. I trace my ideological lineage back to Engels and Marx through Lenin, to Lenin through Stalin, to Stalin through Hoxha, and from there I add a dash of Machiavelli, Sacher-Masoch, and Szekely for good measure. Just to make things clear, yes, I'm aware what's claimed about the people I've just mentioned, and, no, you do not have a better Wikipedia than I have. As for the class character of the Soviet Union, I believe it was a dictatorship of the proletariat up until the Liberman and Kosygin reforms.
That does it for my unsolicited self-description.
