I'm in london for a while and I'm sorta bored
I assume there are people here who live here and have ideas as to what to do
What's cool to see/do/drink?

Imperial war museum, Shakespeare's globe, Marx's grave, Marx memorial library.

There isn't much of anything to do there.
It's not like it's one of the great melting pot capitals of the world that attracts immigrants with their local food and vibrant music scenes. Nor is it a former imperialist HQ with treasures from across the globe assembled in a few bus stops away. Or an absurd concentration of wealth from serfdom to today that buys up the riches and treasures of the ages.
And the supposed haunts of Moore, Marx, Darwin, Orwell - please. Those are just tourist traps.
Honestly, there's shit all to do there. Oh, and the museum entrance fees are a ridiculous rip-off.

I wasn't saying London had nothing to do or anything, simply that I had not found something to do. I was asking for specific places to go.

There is nothing. Literally nothing to do in London. Leave there and never go back.

things i did;
highgate cemetery; marx grave is boring but there are some cool civil war memorials and the tour over the closed of victorian section is gothic (well victorian i guess) as fuck, well worth the trip.
kew gardens (smoke a spliff before hand)
imperial war museum
the tower (those ravens are freaking cool, and while the permanent exhibition is the usual stuff they have really good temp exhibitions too)
a drink at the admiral duncan (gay bar nailbombed by a neo-nazi, they have a really pretty memorial chandelier for the victims yet live goes on underneath it)
the mural at cablestreet

Yeah, alcohol seems to be absurdly expensive in most places. But that's probably a big city/tourist trap thing in general. Where's generally good to get a decently priced drink?

south east ldn is good for cheap drinks. don't really know areas to suggest as its pretty rough but they say that peckham is 'up-and-coming' and its definitely cheaper there compared to the rest of ldn. new cross is also good in term time as there are students about. there's brixton on the other side of south ldn too - more affordable than central.
i'll pm you some good bars later if u want.

roman road market - avoid hoxton /shoreditch bougie hipster nonsense and vv expensive -
greenwich park stand both side of the meridian line in the park- at the top of the hill in the park you can take one of the best views of the city on a good day - greenwich park and market are a great day out and the university is where they make a lot of films -
at the end of the day you can walk up along the thames and have a drink at one of the pubs at the edge of the thames -it is worth taking a boat bus up the thames and you can buy a drink on there
down side - right now london is full of people really busy - would recommend travel by bus. get an oyster card - warning this is a very expensive city.
how long are you in london? and - what do you like to do?

greenwich park is cool for the view. north of the city, there's hampstead heath which has great views looking down. its good to see the city from both sides.

thames barrier, neasden temple, wellcome collection, abney park cemetery, the thames walk (south side), horniman museum, the curling bridge at paddington, ride a bike of the canals/lea river, see some peacocks at holland park, hamstead heath pools, have a drink at the palm tree by mile end or the angel in bermondsey, get a curry in shadwell...
these are just some free/cheap things to do. there's plenty more if you narrow down what you're looking for.
as for drinks there are still place you can get a half decent priced pint, but it depends on what part of the city you're in.

I did enjoy Edinburgh, but I was at the end of a police charge and a kettle, so didn't really have a chance to see it properly.

go to the south bank - it's free and has nice views/food/ice cream. Take a river tour of the city of london, or a rib voyage on the thames.
Go to Richmond Park. It's also free and very pretty.
Avoid any central london club, it's just full of z-list celeb millionaire wannabes.
Having a wander around Camden is alright, but it's almost like post-cool now, the prices reflect that. Still, it's alright around the stalls and some of the markets.
Sometimes if you go to Covent Garden and hang aroudn the theatres at lunchtime you can get tickets for some of the top musicals/plays for like 5/10 quid.
The British Museum is also fucking cool.
I'd personally avoid East London, it's just full of cafes and arty shit.

edinburgh is pretty and all, but there's nowt to really do after a while.
best uk cities are leeds and glasgow.

not hugely. I resent paying a silly amount for a cup of tea/coffee when I could have one in the comfort of my own home.
It is admittedly one of my great failings that I find the idea of wandering around an art gallery for any period of time an absolute bore, but there you go.
But tbh I was talking more about the sort of hipster types that proliferate areas like Stoke Newington, Shoreditch etc. Bit of a dig.

went to an funeral in the midlands, sad occasion but they had awesome local micro-brews there, many a tribute pint was had there.
which was good because me and the deceased had a repeated argument over each others "local" beers being "good".
i liked guiness which he though shit, he liked our oranjeboom which is fucking horrible

if yer pal was from england / the midlands, guinness is hardly a local brew though. in that case, oranjeboom would arguably be just as "local".
bricolage's list is closest to mine: horniman museum, thames barrier, wellcome collection, hampstead heath and holland park, etc. to that i'd only add battersea park.
in terms of cheap pints, best bet is a sam smiths. there are 100 odd across london and they sell pints of bitter for about £2.90, mixed crowd but they are usually in nicely preserved old pubs, rather than yer wetherspoons soulless shit.
that said, just leave london.

If a 'cheap' pint in London is £2.90 that's another reason to leave right there.

If a 'cheap' pint in London is £2.90 that's another reason to leave right there. People complaining about paying a mere £2.90 for a pint reminds me of just how a big shithole Canada is

if you like buying records check out honest jon's down portobello road (near the falafel king, if you've been), sounds of the universe in soho (met theo parrish here, and there was a boiler room set there on the weekend), and there are few music and record exchanges across london which are worth checking out for cheap vinyl.
