Deep Green Resistance an anti-capitalist primitivist radical environmentalist group. As many know they've become famous (or infamous) recently because of their transphobia.
I've read some of their stuff online and I can't really make out their politics. Can their ideology in any way be considered Marxist or at least derived from Marxist thought? As I understand primitivism is at least partly derived from some versions of left communist thought by way of Carmatte and others.
Do Derrick Jensen and other DGR have any sort of Marxist background? Or is DGR pretty much what it says on the label, radical primitivists who think its possible to "rewild" the planet?

I don't know the answer to your question. However, my comment on this organization is: Kill it with Fire!

I completely agree, they suck. I had a conversation w/a comrade a little while ago about DGR's transphobia. I was asked whether they are Marxist and I said I didn't think so but wasn't sure. I was just wondering where they fit in the genealogy of leftist thought or if they fit in anywhere.

Neither Derrick Jensen nor the 'organisation' has anything to do with Marxism. They're vaguely against 'capitalism' in a middle-class hippy kind of way - which is to say that they're against human control over nature (i.e. Marxism's stated goal).

DGR is gross
i dont see anything marxist in their views but even if some of their ideas are derived from marxism they're pretty clearly faulty

DGR kinda evolved from primitivism, which kind of evolved from left communism. Essentially, they took primitivism and merged it with the idea of a Leninist vanguard. I would say that they are more influenced by Leninism than by Marxism.

DGR's views on civilization, society, industry, production are not new and some of these criticisms are valid imo
DGR also has a transphobic agenda

DGR seems kind of creepy. While I generally agree that some critiques of "civilization" should be made, I don't find myself endorsing "rewilding" or anything of that sort.

I don't know what the dgr thinks of him, but french marxist Jacques Camatte pretty much founded anarcho-primitivism out of Marxism. just some food for thought.

Deep ecology is an extremely conservative ideology which has (or "should have") utterly nothing to do with genuine leftism. Basically, they want to deny humanity the fruits of thousands of years of technological and medical progress. The worldview of these ultra-greens appears to range from hippy-dippy "save the world by going Vegan" nonsense to dangerously misanthropic sociopathy, ala Pentii Linkola. How this can be described as "progressive" is beyond me..
