"This is a farce. The Texas legislature is a bunch of liars who hate women." (http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2013/07/09/this-is-a-farce-the-texas-legislature-is-a-bunch-of-liars-who-hate-women)

If you don't watch anything else today, you need to see Central Texas resident Sarah Slamen testify during a Human Services Committee meeting on the state's contentious abortion legislation and then get silenced by the chair and dragged away from the podium mid-testimony by state troopers (http://gawker.com/model-citizen-bravely-blasts-lawmakers-at-texas-abortio-723731551), ostensibly for calling out the junk science behind the legislation and the misogynist legislators who support it:

I wish Sarah Slamen all the best in beautiful New York.

The draconian anti-choice legislation comes from the very same people that want to "get government off our backs."

I have a general rule, anywhere the cops wear cowboy hats you're especially more fucked than just the average state of being fucked.

As someone once said; they want the make the government so small that they can ram it up a vagina...

Unsurprisingly, the bill passed today in the Texas House.

It's off to the Senate now. For those of you unfamiliar with this, the bill was slated to be passed into law a while back but it was interrupted during its proceedings in the Senate through a filibuster by a state senator (Wendy Davis) and the arrival of several pro-choice advocates at the Texas Congress to make noise in the guest seating. They managed to delay the vote until past midnight, and the Lt. Gov (who heads the Senate) had to concede the bill was not passed.

Not to be denied, this prompted Governor Perry to call a special session to shoehorn this bill (as well as some other shitty ones, including some voting laws now allowed to go through due to the recent supreme court ruling). The Texas legislature is among the few in the country that doesn't meet full time and only does so a few weeks every other year. The governor however can call a special session when ever he wants for what ever he wants, so it is likely they'll shove it through this time.
