This has been making the facebook rounds - basically cops try and harass a guy for "Obstruction" after he takes vides of their operations with his phone and then shoot his dog (warning graphic):

I'm not sure how common it is for police to shoot animals, but I can think of a number of cases in California in the last few years right off the top of my head. Sometimes the newpaper outcry about some of these stories has been downright infurirating because you get the sense from some of the op-eds and whatnot, that they wouldn't have been mad if the cops shot a person ("but animals are innoccent whereas that guy MUST have been up to something when if cops did that"). Even in comments for that youtube video, some people are like "well that guy should have known better, but the dog...:crying:"

But it would be interesting to know how common this is for cops to shoot animals - basically out of convinience. I don't think the cops have it out for animals, but I think it inadvertantly shows some systemic things about policing.
