HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE
KATHMANDU: A meeting of four communist parties today decided to begin discussions for party unity in order to emerge as a strong force.

CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Baidhya‚ CPN (Maoist) led by Matrika Yadav‚ CPN (United) led by Pari Thapa and Revolutionary Communist Party Nepal led by Mani Thapa have decided to unify to create a strong communist centre in the country.

Issuing a joint press statement here today‚ the four forces have stated that they will continue discussions until the parties merge to become a single united communist party.

They have said they cannot address the challenges facing the communist movement in the country by remaining at different places.

Very short article, does anyone else have information on this?

So I'm assuming these groups are trying to form something to better compete with UCPN(M)? Or is there something else going on?

I'm not too familiar with what's going on in Nepal so forgive my ignorance here...

This is what needs to happen in the U.S. There are tons of registered parties in our political system which share the same ideologies yet have nothing to do with each other. If they had some solidarity they may actually get somewhere in over throwing the current system in favor of leftist revolutionary one.

Meh, even if all of the existing Leftist parties got together, I don't really see the Left being all that much stronger for two reasons:
1) The actual unity would be shaky in the first place, so when things like Syria or Cuba would be brought up, the unity would be challenged.
2) There isn't too much more that could be done just by virtue of being one umbrella organization (which would itself be more of a coalition). So while it would perhaps be able to mobilize bigger numbers for certain things, it would need to focus on things like recruiting more than anything most likely.

Granted this all depends on how such a unity would be achieved in the first place, and as of now there isn't really much basis for it unfortunately.

Seeing this and the joint statement released by the FARC-EP and the ELN in Colombia tells us to keep an eye out for the guerillas.

Than it seems that there is even more that needs to happen in America than just that.
