Afshin Osanloo, a worker activist, a member of bus drivers syndicate of Iran and brother of Mansour Osanloo (former leader of the syndicate), died while he was in prison. He was sentenced to prison because of his activity in the syndicate. His imprisonment would have lasted for another 9 months if he had lived.
Officials claimed that he died because of heart attack. But his family reported that he was healthy. Since there have been a number of mysterious deaths in prisons of Iran, we have reasons to have doubts about the honesty of officials. Many political prisoners whom most of them were young, have suddenly died in prisons in recent years and the government claimed they died because of natural causes or suicide. In some cases they buried the prisoner first and then informed his/her family. Less than a year ago, Satar Beheshti, a young blogger, died few days after he was arrested. Government claimed that his death was natural (result of a neurotic shock). But His family too declared that he was completely healthy when he was violently arrested. Few months after the beginning of 2009 protests in Iran, two doctors who served in Kahrizak prison (a death camp) died mysteriously as well. One of them was shot to death and governmental officials claimed that another one who was a conscript has committed suicide by taking poison in a military base while his family reported that he had no mental problem. They were aware of crimes which occurred in that death camp so its possible that they were killed by government. there are many examples of such deaths beside the ones which i mentioned.
Mr Afshin Osanloo was 42 years old and healthy. There is a 2 day gap between the time which he was last seen in prison and the time which his death was reported to his family (2013/06/22).
The government which claims that these deaths are natural or suicide, is the same one which has killed about 4500 political prisoners who were not sentenced to death in 1988 massacre. Officials have changed their places, some of them turned to Reformists and others turned to Conservatives but the roots have remained unchanged.
Even in times which naives or opportunists were celebrating the “election” of a “moderate” president, some political prisoners were in hunger strike and some were under torture. some women political prisoners were violated in prison and went on a hunger strike, but why should the criminal Reformist opportunists and the lumpen bourgeois youth who celebrate their victory by dancing in the streets care about them? Since the bourgeoisie has become a reactionary class, we cannot even expect it to defend the bourgeois democratic rights. Its up to communist and proletarian activists to defend the human rights.
