Another movie coming about the "excess" of greed and wealth. Frankly, I think these movies based on notorious figures such as Jordan Belfort do little to actually critique excesses in society and do more to play up a bad boy image on the main characters. There might be a mention of financial system being a rigged game in a couple of scenes but for the most part by the trailer it looks like another expose of the greed of another sorry sod under the guise of criticizing modern society.

It just reminds me of the Bling Ring or Spring Breakers, these movies kind of create a thin line between social commentary and actual promotion of the lifestyle in question.

It's hard to say based on a trailer. Critiques of greed and excess alone are shallow anyway, so if a movie seems like a veiled glorification of the greed it ostensibly condemns that's probably why.
In any case, I still wanna see it.

The Bling Ring isn't even out yet.

I meant by the look of the trailer, its source material, the history of Coppolas Films.

I very much doubt that, it's a Scorsese film and he is quite an excellent filmmaker.

But as was said before, it's too early to tell what the message and structure of the film would be. His films aren't usually too heavy in terms of social critique, but I predict it will be hard to address it in a film with this subject matter.

We should also note the timing of this film: after OWS, global protest movements, etc.

It's been over two decades since I really loved one of his films.
