Well I'm from Illinois, the town I live in is basically the war machine of the right wing, I'm 15, 16 next month. Please think no less of me cause of my age! I was first exposed to communism when in an anti communist class, I thought "this sounds pretty cool" from there it was just personal research on the web. So any questions?

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

Hi, and welcome! Which class was it that turned you on to communism? You say it was an explicitly anti-communist course, but I'm just curious as to what it was exactly. History? Government?

What have you encountered so far through your personal research? If you haven't already, I'd recommend visiting the Marxists Internet Archive (MIA) (http://www.marxists.org/). It contains a wide variety of readings to choose from.

It was during our constitution class, we went over the 10 planks of communism

Marx later claimed that these were outdated.

Yes I have a question. Why do you think communism sounds 'cool'?

Seriously? 16 here, I did not realize there were so many kiddies like myself running around and ruining the place for all the serious hardcore revolutionaries.

The Autonomist Ultraleft is at the cutting edge of graphic design, and regularly throws parties where police are injured. Duh.
Also, "communizing" vs "career planning".

Thank you for your point of view, but do remember that I was asking Captain.

Why do you want us to call you Captain? :P

Anyway, I discovered communism in a similar way. It was in history class, and the teacher kept talking about everything that was possibly wrong with communism and he kept saying the most cliche stuff (like it's good on paper but bad in practice). So I looked it up to do my own research and discovered that the teacher was wrong.

Also, I just read the 10 planks of communism thing. Do you go to a public or private school? I know most schools are anti-communist, but that's just extremely conservative. It's pretty much flat out saying that America is on the road to socialism which is a bold statement in this country.

Marx later claimed that these were outdated.

I though it sounded like a plausible idea, sounded like it would really work, and to answer the other guy about why it sounded "cool" by cool I meant that I liked the sound of it.

hello, friend!

Do students organize politically in the "war machine of the conservatives", even if in a conservative fashion?

Yes, in the summer (and during the school year) the student representatives meet with a the principle and vice principle and go over rules or regulations, we discuss the rules or regulations that we think should be changed or altered. Each grade from grade seven is given two representatives (a boy and a girl) and then the vice president and president of the student body are also present (but can't participate). I've been the female rep since 8th grade. If I can decide where in the left I fit in then I'll introduce the school to more of a leftist spin. Lol WARNING: INSURGENCY IN THE PROCESS!!!

I'm in the student council- we do nothing other than suggest things for set topics and eat cake, then they won't let me have coffee because the cake made me thirsty.
Anyway, I got my coffee anyway- gotta love coffee machines.

Enjoy your years of youthful whim and fancy, before you become a hardened, jaded cynic like myself, desperately trying to drown your sorrows in a toxic mix of delusion, self pity & substance abuse.

Anyway, welcome to revleft!

Welcome to RevLeft. I hope you will find this site useful. And don't worry about your age, most users are fairly young. Could you tell us a bit more about your political ideas? Do you identify with any Marxist tendency?

If you have any questions about Trotskyism, feel free to PM me.
