NIA finds no assets of Naxalite leader to confiscate

KARIMNAGAR: A team of officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and police and revenue department on Saturday came to confiscate the properties of MuppallaLakshmanaRao alias Ganapati, secretary of Maoist party, and two members of the Maoist central committee.

The move follows an order of Calcutta high court, which directed that the properties of Ganapati and central committee members Balumuri Narayana Rao and Thipparthi Tirupati be seized.

NIA inspector Raja Subramanyam Raju visited Ganapati's native village Birpur in Sarangapur mandal of Karimnagar district. The NIA official was supported by the local police and revenue authorities. They made an announcement in the village by beating drums that the assets of Ganapati would be seized as per a court directive.

Later, they enquired about Ganapati's family and perused the revenue and village records. But they did not find any property registered in the name of Ganapati. The team found that a house was registered in the name of Ganapati's brother Ramachandra Rao.

The officials also visited the house of Narayana Rao and found that 1.37 acres of land is registered in his name. The property was seized and it was handed over to local tehsildar Guduri Srinivasa Rao. They could not locate any property registered against the name of Tirupati. The NIA inspector left for Kolkata.

Say Ganapati has no property in his native Beerpur village

Following the directive from Kolkata National Investigation Agency (NIA) court to seize and attach the properties of top Maoist leaders, the Karimnagar district revenue authorities visited the Bheerpur village of Sarangapur mandal on Saturday and found that Maoists’ supremo Muppala Laxman Rao alias Ganapathi did not have any properties in his native village of Bheerpur.

However, the revenue authorities said that they had seized and attached 1.37 acres of land that belonged to Maoists central committee member Balmuri Narayana Rao in the village and handed over the same to the NIA authorities. Sarangapur tahsildar G. Srinivas Rao, along with revenue and police officials, visited the Bheerpur village on Saturday and conducted inquiry into properties of Maoist leaders.

To their shock, the revenue authorities did not find any property of Ganapathi, who had left the village some four decades ago and had been leading underground life. NIA inspector Raja Subramanyam Raju was also present.
