I am writing an essay on pacifism and it's relation to role models. For example, when you explain why destroying a bank is a good thing, and how it advances out goals. Inevitably, someone will bring up people like Martin Luther King Jr. or Mahatma Gandhi, along with the claim that we should act like them, and be peaceful. I wish to write about why these people in many cases are unreasonable to expect us to follow, due to material conditions, the opportunities they have in life, and the type of person they are. In many ways, I would love to be able to follow these people's example and be non-violent, but I think that's unreasonable to expect of people, as well as unreasonable to expect the bourgeoisie to just give up their power.
What I'm looking for:
1. Quotes from people like MLK or Gandhi regarding people like Malcolm X or Bhagat Singh.
2. Quotes from these people as a whole regarding violence.
3. I'm going to interview people as to who they feel are more realistic role models.
4. Theoretical but realistic examples and real world examples of violence working, as well as non-violence working, plus both of them failing.
I figured I could post here for y'all to catch whatever I miss in my research, so any help is appreciated. Thank you.
