The reason why the site was down was because the previous hosting provider for a while was disabling a bunch of our scripts and then finally decided to kill our dns records. Since then, we've switched dns providers to an off-shore registrar and are now hosting outside of the US at a more secure location. We're sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused with the site being down. Please post comments to this article if you experience any problems accessing pages, since I'm sure there are still bugs that we haven't been able to catch.
The 'more secure [off-shore] location' is the Netherlands.
