Italian priest don Andrea Gallo died yesterday in Genoa, aged 84.
After being a partisan in his youth during WWII, he became a priest in the 1950s. Got expelled from the official Catholic Church in the 1970s because of his liberal and socialist stances. He was known as the "street priest" for his community work. As an outspoken LGBT rights activist, he called for the election of a gay Pope, advocated ordination of woman and fought for legalization of marijuana. The last bit brought him fame, as he was caught smoking marijuana in the Genoa city hall.
