What do you all think of the new Xbox?

Summary:

KbWgUO-Rqcw

Also...
Two things have been confirmed:

1. You must be connected to the internet once a day to use your XboxOne:

Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks?

Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct.
http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-does-require-internet-connection-cant-play-o-509164109
2. You can let friends borrow a Xboxone disk, but the borrower MUST pay a fee to play it:

Here's how the system works: when you buy an Xbox One game, you'll get a unique code that you enter when you install that game. You'll have to connect to the Internet in order to authorize that code, and the code can only be used once. Once you use it, that game will then be linked to your Xbox Live account. "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like," Harrison said.

Other users on the console will be able to play that game as well, Harrison said. So you don't need to buy multiple games per family. "With the built-in parental controls of the system it is shared amog the users of the device," he said.

But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison said.

"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."

im not a console gamer, so i dont care much about it, but to those who might are interested: it blocks used games, and if you still have one you need to pay a fee for each individual game to be able to play it. so that will kill the used game market for sure. cause you wont find buyers for your games. have a game that you played to death and dont want anymore? throw it away. no more borrowing games to friends either.

also i heard that if you have kinect that microsoft spies on you thanks to the webcam/scanner or something. so yeah, have fun with xboxone.

Anything that makes you go online to use is automatically shit, right off the bat.

Then it's just got privacy issues out the ass.

And, less importantly, it looks like a sleek VCR. If I ever get an eighth-gen system, I'm guessing it'll be PS4 (though I prefer 360 over PS3).

Honestly, I think consoles are developed specifically to be inconvenient and not fun these days. What with all the way to make it so you NEED to get online, you can't borrow each others' games, etc... I think the next step is you have to buy a new console for every game :(

o well this is ok I guess

They're probably banking on making the fee a negligible one like 2 bucks and relying on the mass of used games circulated plus the fact that it costs them fuck all to add the charge. ISPs do that shit all the time.

Are they trying to kill console gaming? I thought one of the advantages of PCs over consoles was the fact that you didn't have to faff about setting stuff up, just plug it into your TV and turn it on.

But nope, they just have to try and squeeze that blood out of that stone...

dunno how you do it. I could stand Duke Nukem N64 with friends, 007 too, but the fast paced FPS going from PC to console I feel like I'm dosing on Ketamine, the lack of hotkeys and options to engage in the game is boring for me on console. Also the lack of mods and being able to actually control game performance, add-ons etc at a code level makes me rage. However, I would buy xbox just for Astropop. That game is so addicting.

Xboxone? There was already an Xbox one! It was called Xbox.

I couldn't care less about this because I've never owned an Xbox in my life. I buy Playstations. If sony tries to pull this shit I might be done with console gaming altogether. In a way I hate PC gaming because I have to keep upgrading to play newer games. I can buy any PS3 game with the assurance that it'll work on my PS3. Plus I do prefer console controls in certain games.

This is why you don't leave your mic/camera plugged into your computer/console when not in use.

Meh, just turn the graphical settings down a bit. I remember getting Sins of a Solar Empire (a great game, by the way, though it's sometimes advertised as a real-time 4X which it... just isn't) to work on an absolutely ancient machine. Borderlands too.

I think the empire building aspect is token at best. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a great game, and even the token aspects add a lot of depth (and can lead to hilarious outcomes), but it really isn't in the same class as, say, Imperium Galactica.

Unless you're obsessed with max settings on every game PC gaming for me costs the same price for hardware as console gaming over the same amount of time. The upside is i spend far less on games due to piracy and i've got access to a huge back catalogue unlike modern consoles that for monetary reasons tend to no longer be backwards compatible.

As for the controls... you can get a pad for PC.

This sounds really crap. I don't really like or play first person shooters so a lot of the games that come out don't really appeal to me. I also don't have enough money to buy any of these new consoles. Anyway, I don't like the way games seem to be going in that they just want everything to be hooked up to the internet. There is absolutely no need for single-player games to be connected to the internet all the time. It's purely so that the game companies can make sure you have to pay them to play.

Ele'ill
14th June 2013, 00:27
that was one of the reasons I gave up my gaming pc that I built, I couldn't afford internet that I needed even for single player the internet was the deal breaker I could build an identical pc for the cost right now but net is expensive for a connection good for gaming

now of course I regret it all cause I miss playing planetside2 with #FF0000, chillin at an empty base capture point waiting for the idiot enemy players to run a few steps inside and go afk

Since E3 I pretty much made up my mind that I was going to buy a PS4. I mean, Sony mercilessly beat Microsoft in almost every way imaginable as far as public relations go (No DRM bullshit, used games can be played, trade games with friends with no headaches).

Only problem is that now you'll have to pay for the PSN's multiplayer services.

'Course, with games like Kingdom Hearts III and Watch_Dogs coming out, I can overlook that.

(And after experiencing The Last of Us, I can't wait to see what Naughty Dog have up their sleeves for the new system).
