Hi my fellow leftists! No offense, but I'd prefer to withhold my name. But feel free to call me RedYouth. Just a little bit about me:

Citizen of Occupied Cascadia.
Libertarian Socialist.
Believes in a revolution in America and an implementation of a parliamentary Euro-style government.
However, democracy is a means to an end in my opinion. Marx's ideal socialist state is my goal.
Atheist.
Romani/Taiwanese/Irish.
Middle Class.
Supports government control of major industries, but an allowance for regulated private enterprise.

Thanks for reading my brief and 99% incomplete political manifesto  but I digress. If you want to inbox me for some political discussion or just want to chat, feel free!

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

In what way is the "Cascadian" movement a real thing? I've heard of it now and then, but I thought it was mostly a rightwing fringe movement.

Also, a "Euro-style" government is not democratic but oligarchic with some democratic concessions, much like North-America :) True democracy would mean an end to capitalism as it would break with the dictatorship of the market. It is for this reason Marx and Engels didn't think of this as a side-issue, but that the "battle for democracy" is indeed central to working class struggle.

My version of Cascadia would be more along the lines of "Ecotopia". I'm sure that there are right wing Cascadians (go to Eastern Washington, and you'll get it), but for me, I'd rather live in a progressive nation in the Pacific Northwest rather than the corporatist/regressive government I do now. I wholeheartedly agree with the oligarchical portrayal of parliament, but to me it is a means to an end. Representative democracy has big, glaring problems, and I hope that an effective government based on the total control and participation of the people will come about in my lifetime ;) so don't worry, I'm not a Stormfront spy.

I was particularly struck by your comment

as it resonated with something said in the Socialist Standard in an article called Suffragette Humbug
