View Full Version : Let's talk about fetishism for a second.

I'm a little disturbed by some attitudes I've seen on this sight toward people who practice sexual fetishes. One poster even suggested that infantilists (Adult Babies/Diaper Lovers), specifically, "cop to" his idea that their fetish stems solely from taboo, implying that they're responsible for or otherwise complicit in their own discrimination. This is an utterly reactionary attitude. A lot of sexual practices don't feat neatly into "gay" or "straight" categories, in the same way most people don't fit into either so cleanly. Sadomasochists, infantilists, foot fetishists, bondage fetishists, coprophagists, etc. ad infinitum deserve as much respect as any other human being. The way they choose to express themselves sexually with other people may cause a gut reaction of disgust, particularly when excreta is involved, but, to borrow the words of Tennessee Williams, why should anything human disgust you if it isn't unkind or violent? And I am, of course, talking about people who practice their fetishes with parties who have given completely informed and wholehearted consent, with an open line of communication and respect between each party.

Agreed. What a group of consenting adults do for sexual pleasure in private is neither the business of the State or the business of other people.

I have a few fetishes myself, and as far as I'm concerned if it's between consenting adults it's fine, and no one deserves discrimination for that. I happen to think some fetishes are downright disgusting (like shitting, vomit, etc.), but who am I to judge others based on my personal preferences? Some people find my own fetishes weird, and I wouldn't like to be judged for them. "Don't judge others lest they judge you".
As for the diaper thing, we had a member a while back who was very vocal about that fetish but he was a creep. I think he got banned because he started defending pedophilia.

I'd like to say that, although I endorse reconsidering how we treat informed consent and age in the Western world, there's a fine line between that and endorsing what can only ever be abusive and uneven in terms of power.
