From this (http://www.revleft.com/vb/epic-surfer-dude-t178453/index.html?t=178453) thread a while ago? Seems he wanted for murder now.

Authorities in New Jersey are hunting an internet celebrity known as "Kai the hatchet-wielding hitchhiker" after a man was found dead on Monday.

Kai, whose real name is Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, has been charged with murder by police and is considered armed and dangerous.

On Tuesday McGillvary had written that he had been "drugged [and] raped" in a post on his Facebook page. "What would you do?," he asked his 2,500 followers.

An arrest warrant for McGillvary was issued on Thursday. Authorities in New Jersey said his whereabouts were "unknown" and offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

An investigation was launched after Joseph Galfy was found dead in his home in Clark, New Jersey. An autopsy determined that Galfy had died as a result of blunt force trauma, Union County prosecutor Theodore J Romankow said.

McGillvary became famous after giving a vivid account of how he used a hatchet to stop an assault in Fresno, California, in February this year. Giving his name only as Kai, the 24-year-old told reporters that he had been hitching a ride with a man who he said had deliberately driven into a pedestrian.

McGillvary said the driver had then got out of the car and attacked a woman passerby. At that point, McGillvary said he had reached for his hatchet and intervened, stopping the attack.

Since then McGillvary has risen to web stardom, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel's show as thousands of followers flocked to a Facebook page under the name Caleb Kai Lawrence Yodhehwawheh, which is said to be updated by the hitchhiker.

Romankow said McGillvary had cut his hair in an attempt to alter his appearance. He was last seen at a light rail station in Haddonfield, New Jersey, area, Romankow added.

An internet celebrity known as "Kai the hatchet-wielding hitchhiker" has been arrested and charged with murder after a man was found bludgeoned to death in New Jersey.

Kai, whose real name is Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, was detained in Philadelphia on Thursday. Authorities had earlier offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the capture of McGillvary, who was described as armed and dangerous.

The arrest came after Joseph Galfy, 73, was found dead in his home on Monday. Authorities said McGillvary, 24, met Galfy in New York City on 12 May and spent two nights at the man's house in Clark, New Jersey.

Union County prosecutor Theodore Romankow said Galfy was wearing only his underwear and socks when found by police. An autopsy determined that Galfy had died as a result of blunt force trauma, Romankow said.

McGillvary, who gained internet fame after giving a vivid account of how he used a hatchet to stop an assault in Fresno, California, in February, was arrested at Philadelphia bus station on Thursday evening. Authorities in New Jersey had previously said his whereabouts were unknown and said he may have cut his distinctive long hair.

"I believe that everyone is a little safer with this person off the streets," Romankow said.

On Tuesday, McGillvary had written that he had been "drugged [and] raped" in a post to a Facebook page that he is said to maintain. "What would you do?" he asked his 2,500 followers.

Following the incident in Fresno earlier this year McGillvary told reporters that he had been hitching a ride with a man who McGillvary alleged had deliberately driven into a pedestrian.

McGillvary said the driver had then got out of the car and attacked a woman passing by. At that point, the 24-year-old said he reached for his hatchet and intervened, stopping the attack.

The incident, and the interviews he gave on local television, propelled McGillvary to web stardom. He appeared on Jimmy Kimmel's show and thousands of followers flocked to the Caleb Kai Lawrence Yodhehwawheh Facebook page

"I believe that everyone is a little safer with this person off the streets," [Union County prosecutor] Romankow said.

Whatever happened to the presumption of innocence before ascertaining guilt? The guy's been arrested and charged but has yet to be convicted, so I have no idea why this tame lawyer thinks it is remotely appropriate to start spouting off bullshit about the streets being safer. Without a conviction, how the fuck would he know that?

He's gonna look like a right fucking tit as well as a posturing idiot if the charges don't stick. Doesn't he care about that?
