But deputy coroner Alan Walsh declared an open verdict, saying he could not see how this would drive him to take his own life.

What absolute fucking bullshit!

Loan sharks and debt collection agencies are complete scum who will use any tactic of intimidation that they think they can get away with. It doesn't matter if the debt is £100, £1000 or more, the fuckers want their money and will have no qualms about sending around large shaven-headed thugs (whether "proper" bailiffs or generic heavies) to your house to make their point.

There's also the possibility that the poor sod had some undiagnosed mental condition that placed him in a fragile state of mind, and even the bureaucratic pseudo-polite approach that more "reputable" companies take to recovering money could push someone like that over the edge.

Disgusting.

It is for this reason I wish Abrahamic religions were true (if you know what I mean).

I don't understand why he set himself on fire. Of all ways to do it, why the most painful?

Either way, loan sharks are disgusting, vile people who pray on the desperate and weak. Fuck the scumbags.

Set the loan sharks on fire, not yourself! It's a shame to see someone go to waste like that and it's disgusting to know that people were hounding the guy day and night. If only he'd retaliated instead of taking himself out of the equation.

Suicide is a sin, so no.

Self-immolation is a form of suicide that almost universally carries some sort of political motivation or message, I think. it has been most famously done by tibetian monks of course, and I remember reading about a Greek man who did it sometime in the last few years.

This monk was protesting the South Vietnamese regime. Such a beautiful and tragic protest. So, the monk was politically motivated.

I have no idea why the victim of the loan sharks would self immolate if there was no symbolic gesture.

the thing that I love about that pic is the look on his face. He looks like he's never been so certain or confident about anything in his life. I'm not even that confident about what I want to have for breakfast in the morning.
