Turkish F-16 fighter jet crashes near Syrian border

The F16 jet was reportedly on an operational mission from its base in northern Turkey

Turkish jet 'shot down' off Syria
A Turkish F-16 fighter jet has crashed near Turkey's border with Syria, officials say.

The plane was flying over the Amanos Mountains in the southern province of Osmaniye when it lost radio contact, Hurriyet Daily News reports.

The pilot sent a message saying "I'm jumping" before contact was lost, according to a written statement from the Turkish Armed Forces.

A search and rescue mission to locate the plane and the pilot is ongoing.

Loud bang

The jet, which is based at the 5th Main Jet Command in the northern province of Amasya, was performing an operational flight over the area.

The Turkish military said it had lost touch with the aircraft at 14:15 local time (11:15 GMT).

People living around the village of Yarpuz said that they had heard a loud bang like an explosion, according to local media

A Turkish fighter jet was shot down by Syria over the Mediterranean in June 2012, after Syrian forces said it had entered the country's airspace.

It was not immediately clear what caused the F16 plane to crash in Osmaniye province on Monday.

This comes two days after the bombing in a Turkish town which killed 46 people. At first, the Turkish government blamed the bombing on the Syrian secret service, and they arrested 9 people who were affiliated with pro-assad groups. Today, or maybe yesterday, Dutch new announced though that DHKP-C is responsible for the bombing, the same Marxist-Leninist group that also did the bombing at the USA embassy in Turkey. I have not found this on english news sites though, if somebody could link that, then that would be appreciated.

The 9 arrested people still seem to be in jail. The Turkish government have made all free press about the recent bombing and the 9 in jail illegal, and the only news allowed about this event comes from the Turkish state news channel.
Turkey seems to be heading in a very bad direction lately...

Here is the english article about the bombing:

About the DHPK-C, there was a thread about them not so long ago I think. Apparently they are more of a cult than real ML's.

Mass bombings are not really devsol/DHKC/P's m.o. as far as I know, though I wouldnt be surprised if they are infiltrated to the brim by Syrian intelligence and quite mindless in their anti-imp'ism.
Still would have expected them to hit the NATO patriot mission way before a post office in a pro-assad region.

What would Assad gain from bombing a Turkish city, except for the possibility of foreign interventions, which would surely mean his death? Unless Assad is a complete and utter idiot, he would not give orders to bomb Turkish post offices. Even if he tried to blame it on others, there would still be a large chance of getting discovered.

EDIT:
I also wonder what made the Turkish government change their position so quickly. At day 1, they accused the Syrian secret service. At day 2, 9 suspects were arrested already (who are most probably innocents, or political enemies of the Turkish ruling party, as it would be impossible to find and the bombers in 1 day. If they worked for the Syrian secret service, they would surely have fled to Syria or another save place to avoid arrest). And now, they changed their enemies from the Syrian secret service, to Marxist-Leninists, who are, like all radical leftists in Turkey, under heavy attack by the Turkish government. Why did they change it? And where are the so called Syrian spies?
