I think we do. Love Unwound and Fugazi, all that stop start punk. Never saw Unwound, but saw Fugazi a couple of times. Mostly been listening to http://temporalfusion.com/ on the hiphop tip, but been really digging some of the glitch stuff. In one of the mixes there's a really great Plastikman v Notorious BIG thing which I was hoping was floating around independently but I don't think so.

The only proper album I've been really into is Nas's n word record. Also Wu Tang meets Dub Step -- couldn't stand it at first but kind of crazy for it now.

The only rock record I listen all the way through is Dinosaur Jr You're Living All Over Me.

I don't know who a lot of those people but I can tell you that Kanye West is NOT an artist. A shit-spewing prostitute? Maybe. An artist? No. Just no.

Beyond the top five there are bands who have not yet disbanded so I daren't say who they are lest they possibly get one more western arsehole buying and hoarding (i.e., failing to rip and freely distribute) their CD's! :sneaky:

I listen to all sorts of generes, but the artists that get the most play in my collection are:
Better Than Ezra
Louis Prima
The Beatles
Green Day
Incubus
& Bright Eyes.

Again, I listen to all sorts of stuff, but those are the most common artists. I also really enjoy classical music (violin, oboe, or double-bass preferred) and old-timey stuff from 1900 through the 1950s.

I also really enjoy the latest wave (up and coming stuff over the last decade) of experimental, soothing stuff - think Mazzy Star and beyond.

And do not diss prostitutes. Just spoke up for you on as an admin. You're wearing thin fast.

I didn't "diss" prostitutes. If anything all I said was that prostitutes aren't artists.

http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l3wt7iBgXT1qcquiqo1_500.png

I made a comparison between Kanye West and a prostitute. Can you not see where I'm coming from?

Art is a celebrated piece of work which shows the extent of the greatness of humanity. I don't consider Kanye's music to be a piece of human work, I consider it to be the work of the decades of corporate tyranny over the music industry.

If you want to threaten me with a ban (which it seems you are doing) please come out and openly give me a warning as well as a reason for the warning rather than give me dodgy messages like "You're wearing thin fast". How am I supposed to know what behaviour I'm supposed to change when you say something as cryptic as this?

One of my two best friends is a prostitute and an artist. Stop already.

What I am saying is that prostitution as a job is not an artistic profession. Of course a prostitute can make art but not in the field of prostitution. That's just nitpicking.

I have never insulted prostitutes so please stop putting words in my mouth and getting offended.

This is fair, I just don't think he should be considered an artist.

Art is totally subjective. As is your definition of it

Art is a celebrated piece of work which shows the extent of the greatness of humanity.I don't see why something has to be celebrated to be art, but Kanye's music most certainly is. As far as showing the extent of the greatness of humanity, who's to say what qualifies? A lot of people think stuff like this

Two things I love more than anything else (concerning music)

1. Heavy Metal

2. 70s/80s AOR Rock bands.

I love Journey, AC/DC, Ghost BC, Iron Maiden, My Chemical Romance, Queen, Anthrax, Dragonforce, Bal-Sagoth, KISS, Nightwish, DIO, anything Tom Morello related...

....But above all, I LOVE Alice Cooper.

Some hold over paranoia. I just looked at it and the only band it knows I like is Kops For Christ, so I guess I should surrender. It's maybe really great. I used to DJ and tech at actual community FM stations. Not used to this internet stuff.

And both Kanye and Jackson Pollock are great artists!

Fugazi, along with Pink Floyd and Sonic Youth, are my favorite bands. My favorite albums are Red Medicine and Steady Diet Of Nothing. If you are a fan of Fugazi, i'm sure you've heard of Minor Threat, but if you haven't heard of Embrace or The Evens yet, look into them. I'm sure you would dig it.

I've got the Minor Threat discography (fits on one CD) and most of Embrace but don't know The Evens. They DC? It was a crazy scene. There's an art show up that covers the early hardcore and Go Go (which is sorta like hiphop) scenes from DC from that period: http://yourlandmyland.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/dc-life-pump-me-up-d-c-subculture-of-the-1980s-at-the-corcoran-gallery-of-art/

One of my pals is pals with Ian MacKaye. There's the occasional weird mix up with a very cool Left historian here named Ian McKay who I sometimes post stuff to the board from...

Damn, just 10 is hard...

At the moment...

Folk-wise, Alethes, Vradiazei, etc.

Metal-wise, Skagos, etc (mindblock...)

Hip-hop-wise, Blax, Final Outlaw, Jasiri X, Ghostface Killah, Wu-Masscre...

3 Left.. Hmmm...

Was listening to the French rapper Profecy, Black Metal band Abyssos... and...

Abolition, sXe hardcore from London.

Of course, in general, my tastes include a more exhaustive list. :)
