View Full Version : Public Request for the unlocking of the Portugal thread

Yesterday, the 2nd of May, the moderator L'Enfermé locked "the Portugal thread".
He had no reasons to act as he did, as there were no demmands for the locking of the thread.
He had no right to lock the thread, as it does not break any of the forum's rules.

The thread was created after I was disapointed at the lack of attention Portugal got on this forum. My posts of disapointment bothered other users, who told me to create a thread about Portugal. To everyone's shock I did it. It had extensive text about the country and its political situation, all made by me. The thread would serve as the place where I, and other portuguese users (if there were any), would post news about the country.
The thread was there for 23 days, and in that time it accomplished its purpose. If someone had any doubts about Portugal, all they had to do was go to the thread and ask their questions.

Then the moderator L'Enfermé stumbles into it as I was done updating it with small news about the 1st of May in Portugal, which I meant to update into bigger news later.
Somehow L'Enfermé thought it would be good to lock the thread, and leave me without a place to post news about Portugal.
This greatly upset me. I demanded that he unlocked the thread, as he had no reasons to do it. He replied with:

I demand you tape yourself singing "It's Raining Men" and post it on RevLeft.

Not only is he ridiculing my demand, as if I was in some way inferior to him, he is asking me to do something which goes against the rules of the forum.
He does not care about my demands, the demands of other users who noticed the thread was locked (Comrade Walrus, Cheshire Cat), nor about the consequences of his action.

I demand the Portugal thread be unlocked and never locked again by any other moderator or admin. I created the thread, and I will be the one to decide when it is going to stop being necessary.

why was the thread locked

it looks like this was the explanation given http://www.revleft.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2613565&postcount=18

This is just silly. You're setting a precedent to spam this forum with even more country-threads. I'm locking this thread. Don't make a new one in this forum.

why was the thread locked

L'Emfermé said it was "nationalistic crap", and could cause other users to open threads like it.
I never posted anything nationalistic in the thread, so he obviously never even bothered to read it.

Re open the thread, I say! L'Enfermé's replies to TRA were mocking and patronising too, which added insult to injury

I would be interested in learning about radical political stuff in Italy

Then you understand why I created the thread.

Unfortunately this forum does not have any Italians, because I would be interested in it too.

I think it would be pretty neat for another subforum to open up where people could talk specifically about their countries, and the political background of such, etc.

I'm not really sure why it would be considered spamming, if it's all related to the topic of the forum itself.

I think that user groups would be more appropriate for location specific ongoing discussions

Usergroups have very restricted access. I want to make it a thread so it is readily available to everyone.

There is a section for "The situation in..." Here news about Greece (esp) and other countries are posted. There is a lot of struggle in Portugal right now so it certainly would be useful. There are a number of Portugese speakers on this forum as well.

Perhaps L'Enferme objected to a long Wikipedia style introduction to Portugal, although a brief introduction can be very useful. I would appreciate an intro on the Carnation Revolution which I'm not as knowledgable about as I should be.

A suggestion, FWIW. Could the Red Anarchist start a RevLeft blog and put his/her intro discussion of Portugal and its history there, for those who are interested and then start a ""The Situation in Portugal" thread in the appropriate subforum? Links to the blog could be listed in the updates in the regular forum.

Hopefully this could make everyone happy.

I asked for the creation of a "situation in the Iberian Peninsula" sub-forum, but nobody ever made it.

There are a number of Portugese speakers on this forum as well.

Most of them are brasilian though.

I put it somewhere in the middle of the "history" part, but it was a very small thing.

There are 2 Red Anarchists in this forum: me and RedAnarchist, the admin. I suspect you are refering to me.
I will only put it on my blog as a last resort.

No admins have ever accepted any of my requests. I have requested a portuguese language sub-forum (when there were more users), a "situation in the iberian peninsula sub-forum", and other smaller things, but no admin has ever done anything for it, even if I have support.

Hopefuly this will be the time when the admins finaly listen to me and unlock the thread.

OP: No. Your thread doesn't belong in the Politics forum. Politics is for discussing political method and political news.

And this forum isn't for discussing administrative action.

Non-political is not the proper place for this. You can try to PM a admin if you feel your thread should be reopened. Honestly, I think you should try to do that in a blog or user group because I can't think of any other sub-forums that would be appropriate for that thread.

I'm closing this because non-political is not for discussing this stuff. Please don't open another thread like this in non-political.

Thread closed.
