1 day to kickoff, anyone else following this shit?
Are you calling national sport of your society a shit? :)
I have ambivalent feelings towards ice-hockey. For me it is too boring. A result of its match changes too rarely. But it is not as mainstream in Europe as football/soccer. I like to watch sports more dynamic as volleyball. But I like ice-hockey when there is many goals:

quite the wakeup call for the big teams here, hopefully we'll get to see some black horses get far (of course not all the way)

Pretty swell: Sweden won against Canada yesterday, and is now in the semifinals. One match, Switzerland vs. USA is propably gonna be a sleepy affair, but the other semifinal is Sweden vs. Finland, and that's one match where the losing nation is going to cry itself to sleep. (Sweden will, of course, win). Swedes have a tendency to like hockey a bit more than football, since the national team sucks at football, but usually has a good chance at winning a lot of stuff in hockey.

I actually think so too, despite hoping for Finland to. It always goes like this: in unimportant games the chances are about equal. But if it's an important one such as a quarter, semi or the actual final, Sweden wins in 9 cases out of 10.
It's like a law of nature, Finland may even lead with several goals but in the end their nerves just give in and Sweden turns it around. Good luck I don't care as much about hockey anymore, as I did when I was younger.

I can never see the puck (that is how the 'ball' is called, right?).

Pretty swell game. I've already spent at least fifteen minutes harassing my half finnish friends since it ended.

This is what's most annoying about the whole thing; the swedish always take out the victory in advance (see post #7) - and then also win, and gloat. This is proof of the fact that karma, God etc don't exist.
One very enjoyable exception was in the olympic games a few years ago (I forget which year) when the evening paper Aftonbladet announced that Sweden 'was already in the semifinals' as they only had to defeat Belarus in the quarterfinals. And then lost.
But seriously, congrats Sweden, the best team won. Finland just didn't get up the tempo until it was too late, esp failing to score under the powerplay at the end of the first period was worthless.
i remember being surprised about the first swiss victory over sweden and thinking, like probably everyone else, that it was a lucky one time thing (but still great)
and here we are
no medals since a bronze in 1953, it's going to be seriously the best thing to happen in hockey in a good while if they win gold tomorrow and there's a very solid chance that's exactly what they'll do
oh my god im even more excited for this than i was for finland-sweden, now i dont have a lifelong history of bitter disappointments to bring my expectations closer to ground

Yeah, that game against Belarus still haunts me. I think i stopped following hockey actively precisely at the moment Tommy Salo, jävla Tommy Salo, dropped the puck behind him and Belarus suddenly was in the semifinals. My best memory when talking about Sweden - Finland is Finland having a 5-1 lead, we change channels for a while (in anger) and turns back on the hockey when it's suddenly 5-2... And then it ended 5-6. Damn good memories.
for fucks sake
i'll take a proper beating any day over losing the medal narrowly in a god damn penalty shootout

Damn, that was close. Good game, at least.
grats sweden i guess, as if you guys needed another gold
a good game too, before hjalmarsson's third period goal both sides had a good chance at winning
switzerland played really well until it was obvious they're going to lose and i personally was quite amazed with the pace of their game, that's some fast as fuck hockey. seriously can't wait to see them play in sochi
in a less relevant note:
im not even talking as a finnish ice hockey fan because i like vancouver canucks a lot but seriously sedin brothers are among the most annoying people involved with ice hockey at the moment
identical twins with matching beards who've played their entire careers in the same teams, what the fuck is up with that

Hey hey Igor, you're messing with our national heroes! It was a great game anyway, Switzerland was really, really good.
