My friend says no, "okay. the essential difference between a pizza and a sandwich lies in the fact that for a thing to be a pizza, the topping/filling must be added before the bread dough is cooked. if the bread has already been cooked, then it's a sandwich. a panini is a sandwich, because you're just cooking the bread again. a grilled cheese is a sandwich for the same reason. if you fill a calzone with bread, it's a pizza - a bread calzone. if you put an uncooked pizza between two slices of bread and cook it, it's a pizza panini. or a grilled pizza sandwich. or something. you don't even need bread - if you're on a low-carb diet, you could put some ham between two pieces of lettuce, and call it a ham sandwich on lettuce. but you can't make a god damn lettuce pizza."

I thought it had to be made with Pita bread and cooked oven-style to be a Pizza?

Pizza is a kind of flatbread which just so happens to have stuff on top. In this way it's no different from khachapuri (Georgian cheese bread) or even a burger bun or beigel with a seed topping, sesame or poppy or whatever else you like.

If you put two slices together, with the top sides facing each other, I guess you could call that a sandwhich.

Reminds me of an idea I had for a super-high calorie food that I dubbed the "Pizza-Pie Sandwich" consisting of a circular sandwich base surmounted by a pie with a pizza on top, instead of the standard plain crust. No idea if that would actually work as a dish, though.
