I was searching in some old books and accidentally found a letter by Bahman Naderipour known as Tehrani to ayatollah Talegani which was published by islamists shortly after 1979 revolution in Iran. Tehrani was an important person in Savak (secret police during the Pahlavi era in Iran), he was a torturer who specialized in womens torture. on a rare massacre in 1975 he singlehandedly shoot 9 political prisoners. 7 Fadaian and 2 Mujaheds were killed by him including Bijan Jazani, one of the founders of OIPFG. Pahlavi regime claimed that prisoners were killed while they were trying to escape. But how come all of prisoners were killed on scene and not even one made it to a hospital? nobody believed that lie.
After the revolution he was left behind by Pahlavis who didn’t need him anymore, they filled their luggage with money and jewelry and run. he was arrested. although some employees of Savak were utilized to rebuild a secret police organization for new islamist rulers and some of them are still active as "teacher"s for young killers and torturers in Iran, Tehrani was too notorious and known by public, employing him could only lead to public scandal. on the other hand new rulers had to pretend that their regime was different from Pahlavis. a "revolutionary court" sentenced him to death and he was killed shortly after, while his crimes were not investigated properly.
Before his execution he sent a letter to ayatollah Talegani and proposed to offer his services to islamist state in exchange for his life (although he doesn’t explain his intention this clearly). Islamists had no need for his services and rejected his offer. But the important thing is: what was his offer?
In his letter, Tehrani explains that the most serious treat which the new government is facing is communism. he predicted that the next struggle will be between islamists and communists (which became true). he mentions the ways to fight communism in different fields, mainly: culture, economy and security. he offered his service in security field (secret police) and made suggestions about other fields. the interesting thing is: although he was executed, the government put almost all of his suggestions into action, as if it was a death-bed testament Im not saying that this was deliberately (i even doubt that any important official has read his letter) but it proves that when it comes to progressive and revolutionary ideas and activists, all of reactionaries have something in common. a former Savak killer and torturer knows what is best for new islamist regime and his suggestions are put into action.
in short, His suggestions were :
1- creating a secret police organization like former Savak and sending agents and spies to communist organizations
2- wiping the revolutionary spirit from peoples minds and “normalization” of peoples lives by entertainment and diverting attentions from revolutionary ideas to ordinary matters and everyday life, using religion against communism, religious way of raising the children, building mosques inside universities and factories (for easing organization of religious people and creating an excuse for bringing non student and non worker people to universities and factories, because communists were in majority in universities and big factories),sending priests to remote parts of the country for religious preaching, separating religious (believers in governmental type of religion) and non religious people in different associations and …
3- reducing class differences, sending government supporters to villages to help farmers about ploughing and such tasks, improving countries infrastructure, introducing a fair labour law and …
Not surprisingly, third point was something that both regimes were unable to accomplish (if they were willing to do so at all), Because of backward capitalist and pre capitalist relationships which made Iran completely dependent on foreign imperialists and ruined its economy.
Prequel of the book is also interesting. the writer who seems to be a young idealist islamist explains that Tehrani is trying to deceive people and their leaders, and that people should guard the unity in their ranks, they should not let the religious differences to separate them, these suggestions are fraud and … but his/her ideal government followed the line which was drawn by a former Savak member. poor writer! It wasn’t Tehrani who was trying to deceive, it was the writer of Prequel who was deceiving himself/herself! I wont be surprised if I find out that the young idealist islamist has developed to a present day conservative hardliner, and if not he/she would be just an exception! It was exactly the islamist regime who rejected the idea of unity and officially divided people based on religion and sex. islamists purged anyone who stood against them using the same methods of previous regime or worse.
Life of Khamenei, present supreme leader, is a proof of what line have the islamists followed. Khamenei was a political prisoner in Pahlavi era. but when he became one of the rulers, he pursued his former cell mate and forced him to flee from Iran! he even jailed the lawyer who had defended him in a Pahlavis court because the lawyer rejected new regimes policies!
So rest in peace Mr Tehrani! your will is being followed!
