Hoax sends stock market into a nose dive

Someone hacked the Associated Press's twitter account, which sent out "breaking news" that the White House was hit by two bombs and the president was injured.

You can Google "Dow Jones" to see the chart yourself. I suppose it's another warning of taking "breaking news" at face value without checking up on it. Though considering Associated Press is one of the agencies which provides stories for many papers, I could see why it may've been seen as authoritative.
