First there was the Front National's success in the presidential elections and now this (http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2013/04/22/france-national-assembly-speaker-urged-to-delay-equal-marriage-vote-in-ammunition-powder-letter/).
Nobody is standing up to these scumbags. Homophobic violence is on the rise and the involvement of Nazi and far-right groups has been known for a long time.

Well the Anti-fascists in France are not very vocal either because they underestimate Front National's electability or do not take them seriously at all even if they were elected. Thanks to France's electoral system it will always take a lot to vote in fascists.
Sadly, what we're seeing now is a minority of reactionaries taking to the streets and pretending they are somehow this oppressed political and democratically legitimate force that has a mandate to govern. Because Hollande is so weak, he's letting these homophobes retards get as much media attention as possible. Christ, even Mitterand would have just told the fascist pricks to fuck off when passing policy.
I intend to go to Paris when the reactionary retards come back to wimper about gay rights and the catholic church again, and we've organized a proper counter-rally.

American antifa pales in comparison to European antifa, honestly.

dont forget that the votes for the front national are mostly rural while most active anti-fascists are urban. the front doesnt really have a serious street pressence at the moment and the various other fash and nazi groups are no serious thread, at least not like they used too.
france got a long and proud history of militant anti-fascism, from the resistance in WW2 to at least when i was there in 2000 and i got dragged along to watch a "minor political discussion" by some paris redskins, this involved tossing a teargass grenade into a fash meeting in a bar and clubbing anyone running out in the head with table legs.

Just watching that actually. It's really understated the work those guys do in the banlieu, etc. to keep the peace between a various assortiment of gangs. Certainly better than the police...

Still. If most of the anti-fascists are urban, then I have to ask where on Earth were they at the weekend in Paris? I can't believe the police seem to be the only people doing anything here. This is definitely a problem.

If you can read French: there seems to be quite a lot happening there...
