I narrowed it down so you can't happen to be one of those mutualists that embraced the Austrian school of quackery.

2016: Clinton elected first female president in hard-fought campaign against an unknown tea party candidate financed by the Koch family representing himself as a turning back towards traditional American values. The European Union expells Greece. Crisis in the EU continues unabated.
2017: Dollar devaluation. Beginning of economic recovery. Loosening of the Cuban blockade. After years of crisis, the European Red Spring inspires people all over the world. Many traditional parties in Europe lose their positions of pre-eminence. Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, and some other small countries drop out of the EU and join a European Federation. Greece invited but refuses to join. The EF starts a policy of stimulus after everything else has been tried. A very quick recovery emboldens unions. The EU becomes a simple trade bloc.
Many Arab countries experience relatively bloodless revolutions. Iran disconnects from the Internet. China talks about democratic reforms. Golden Dawn militance leads to KKE+Syriza alliance in Greece.
2018: Accession of the US to the World Carbon Trading Scheme. Increasingly violent weather and floods. Rumours of a nuclear resurgence. After disappointing mid-term results, Republicans purge the tea party movement and go back to an accommodation with big business and the Democrats. Tea partiers join the Libertarians or the Constitution Party. European Federation accepts several new members and is hit by widespread terrorist attacks. A Chinese company patents a genetic process to avoid several major genetic deficiencies in babies. The US and the EU mired in controversy about the ethics of it and the access to the process. EF starts a long drawn out legal trial against the patents. DPRK makes noises about market reforms.
2019: Biogenetic Institute hit by a deadly terrorist attack at Detroit by rogue shi'ite Iranian group. Combined use of chemical weapons and a dirty bomb in strike against the Great Satan and the mutant menace. Fetal genetic improvement legalised in the whole USA and paid by Medicare. Republicans proud to be the party of science. Most EU member states make overtures to the EF. Only remaining members of EU are UK, Germany and Ireland. Greek left offered EF help, but KKE refuses.
2020: President Hernandez, a gay hispanic Republican of the new mold, ousts Clinton after a campaign focused on national security. Many economic decisions of the Clinton admin are reversed. Inflation controls destroy the recovery. The EF withdraws from patent treaties and makes BetterLife(TM) a human right. The DPRK announces socialism with Korean characteristics.
2021: Invasion of Iran. The US gets European buy-in and Chinese acquiescence in the Security Council. Russia sells arms to both sides. Brutal campaign with very heavy casualties. After a successful general strike, GD starts shooting unionists and coups Greece. The Left Alliance responds by waging a guerrilla war. The DPRK signs free trade deals with Russia and China.
2022: Draft instituted. European Federation largely withdraws from conflict but continues backing it with logistic support. Free multi-party elections in Cuba result in Communist Party win. ALBA becomes a federation. Stalemate in Greece.
2023: Normalisation of relations with Cuba. China condones 60% of the US debt and assures US non-interference in Latin America and Africa. Poorest states target for chinese outsourcing. A second, much weaker, recovery begins. EF negotiates a withdrawal of all US bases from European territory.
2024: Hernandez manages to win a second term as a "war president". In spite of ruinous cost in lives and money, Iranian operation continues. Pacification only a few months away. The European Federation extends observer status to ALBA. Final disolution of the European Union. The UK applies to the US as a new state. Ireland and Germany join the EF. Greek left holds its own against GD but is unwilling to accept foreign aid.
2026: The Esfahan massacre. After mass non-violent demonstrations and a general strike, Iranian students occupy Esfahan. The US and allied forces destroy it, including the UNESCO protected sites, through use of indiscriminate artillery. More than 35000 Iranian civilian dead. Iran becomes ungovernable. EF withdraws from theatre. China demands war crimes tribunal. The international committee of inquiry on the events gets access to US archives and discovers the 2019 Detroit massacre was a CIA false flag operation, as well as the wave of terrorist attacks right after the formation of the EF.
2027: The present.
There are many political groups at your university. The draft has made young people restless and politically active, and everyone's talking about the war since last year's massacre.
Students4Peace has a lot of people from the mainstream parties, but also people who see that a radical change needs to take place. It's not very large, and it's exclusively a student group, not well-funded but barely tolerated by the university administration. It subscribes to non-violence and civil disobedience. For now. Maybe you could make it into a real tool of class struggle. Ideology: liberalism. Membership: 200000.
UPL is a Marxist-Leninist party. Its roots are in the working class, especially immigrants and scientists after the cuts to the National Science Foundation. It does have a small student chapter at your university though, as well as connexions to the radical unions and strike committees. Ideology: MarxismLeninism. Membership: 250000.
The SWP is a Trotskyist formation. After a decade of fumbling and flailing about, it started gaining embers around 2023. Though it has many members who are workers, it mostly recruits from university campuses, and it runs a clever and funny newsfeed on campus. You don't like their ideology so much, but they have a good local membership base and resources you could use, if you could convince them of what is to be done. Ideology: Trotskyism. Membership: 155000.
Looking at the existing parties, you find yourself unsatisfied. Sometimes you think you could do better starting from scratch, leaving aside all the existing messy histories. After all, every party starts that way at some point. CPUSA has a nice ring to it, especially now that it's been defunct for more than a decade. Ideology: Marxism-Leninism. Membership: 1.
What do you do?
1) Join S4P and try to radicalise it.
2) Join the UPL.
3) Join the SWP as an entryist.
4) Create the CPUSA.

You decide to join S4P.
Your university's S4P chapter is not very big. You've seen them in demos before being ineffective and clowning about, full of illusions about the system.
Still, they have a meeting place, and about 65 members. Better than nothing. You find S4P's meeting room at the student union. It's a pretty large place, big enough to accommodate everyone. You hear dubska music and smell hash in the air. The walls are covered in amateurish murals depicting mandalas, and other mystic symbols. Some of them show students sitting on the floor, looking wise, and cops with their guns and riot shields looking hesitant. If only it were that easy. Instead of sitting, the room is covered in soft mats, and students are lying down all over them.
"Excuse me, is this S4P's chapter?" you say.
A blond, handsome guy inhales deeply from a bong, looks at you through the haze of his high, and manages to stand up.
"Duuuuuude! This is S4P. We're for peace, yo. We got the best drugs, the best music, and yeah yeah yeah. You got here just in time. We're gonna have a cuddle!"
"A.... cuddle?" You step back. "You sure I'm in the right place?"
"Sure, man. How can you confront the system when you got a hole in your own heart? Come, just lie down with someone", he looks around and points at a girl, "and just let it go, you know. We're all people, right? That's what the pigs don't get. We're all people."
Bemused, you decide to join the girl. You lie close to her, though not touching her, and take a closer look. She's tall, thin, and dark skinned. As you look into her eyes, she gazes back. You get the feeling her mind's a lot clearer than most people's around here.
"I'm Clara. Welcome to S4P. What's your name?"
"I'm Alfredo. Pleased to meet you, Clara. What... is this all about?"
"Just, you know, decompressing before the meeting." She touches you, and you realise you'll seem out of place if you don't behave like everyone else, so you cuddle for a bit.
At last, the music is turned down (though not off) and the meeting begins. People sit on the mats and talk endlessly among themselves. Finally, the guy with the bong manages to get some order and proposes a road block.
"Guys and girls, we definitely need to stop this war. We need to fight the system where it hurts. We all know if we could just elect good people, honest people, people like me and you, it would all be sorted in a day. Government ain't that hard, you just gotta do the right thing, right? But the elections are sold out to the highest bidder. Now, Ron Cray is coming to this university to give a talk about lobbying, and how it's the American way. For those of you who may be new, Ron Cray's the most important political strategist for the Repubs. He's the guy who makes sure elections keep being bought and sold. So I say we're not gonna let him talk, just as they don't gonna let us talk on their ads!"
"Preach it bro", said someone. "That's right, right on!"
"So", he continued, "what I say we gonna do is we're gonna close the road. He's not gonna get in. Right? Vote?"
"Aye!" said most people.
"Cool. Now we got a new guy here at S4P, and I hope you make him welcome and that he becomes part of our peaceful revolution." He points at you. "Come and tell us something about yourself."
You walk to the front of the room where the bong guy is standing, and give them your 30-second speel. "I'm Alfredo Ramírez, I'm a senior computer science student, and I'm sick of this war. I don't get why they have to keep sending us to die for their profits, and as soon as I finish my studies they're probably going to want to send me there too. I say that's bullshit. No more blood for oil!"
You get a bit of clapping and are happy that you didn't completely fuck it up.
"Since you're into computers and all, we don't have anyone with those skills yet, would you like to take care of the website and all that stuff?" asks the bong guy. "Also, any good reading you'd recommend?"
"Sure." What are you going to say? Plus it's a good opportunity to get more information. "I'm reading 'Theory and Practice of the Revolution' at the moment. I really recommend it."
On the way to your room, you wonder what to do. You've been given the whole credentials to manage the website, just like that; no control, no security, no background check. This opens up quite a few possibilities.
You could install some spyware on the site and try to get into all the members' computers. You could even start finding out who's in it for real, or who's a police informant. Of course, if you get caught, there will be hell to pay.
You've also been wondering whether to anonymously tip the cops about the road block, so that police pressence will be overwhelming and the group will learn about real oppression. You get the feeling S4P students have had it too easy and don't really know what it's like to fight the cops, and if the cops don't push them around it will all turn into another martyrdom session to no purpose.
As you walk home, you see another student giving out leaflets. To your surprise, they're not about hipster Indo-Cuban fusion cuisine or animated tatoos, but about the war. You consider inviting him to join S4P, so you quickly shake your comms at each other and exchange contact points.
Perhaps the right thing to do is to keep a low profile, though. Call Clara, find out what the group is like, and take your time. Making waves could uncover you too early.
You arrive at your room and must make a choice:
1) Install spyware on S4P's website.
2) Tip off the cops about the roadblock.
3) Invite the leaflet guy to join S4P.
4) Get to know the group and Clara better.
