Did you know that there are thousands upon thousands of homeless people that are living underground beneath the streets of major U.S. cities? It is happening in Las Vegas, it is happening in New York City and it is even happening in Kansas City. As the economy crumbles, poverty in the United States isabsolutely exploding and so is homelessness. In addition to the thousands of “tunnel people” living under the streets of America, there are also thousands that are living in tent cities, there are tens of thousands that are living in their vehicles and there are more than a million public school children that do not have a home to go back to at night. The federal government tells that the recession “is over” and that “things are getting better”, and yet poverty and homelessness in this country continue to rise with no end in sight. So what in the world are things going to look like when the next economic crisis hits?

I knew it existed to a very large extent in both Columbia and Las Vegas but not in NYC. Tent cities exist in most cities and most cities i have been to have a well known one. It's sickening to see people living in a tent city by some dirty river and to see expensive condos across that same river.

If you're interested in this subject, I'd highly recommend the film "Dark Days". (A documentary about people who lived in an abandoned section of the NYC underground)

I saw this on facebook today. Absolutely saddening :(. I do have to admire how resourceful these people are though even if they are just doing what they need to in order to survive. If it was me I would be out exposed to the elements for sure.

The system of the U.S is so backwards, they are plenty of homeless americans who are University Graduates; educated and homeless? What the hell is the American Dream if this is the reality people are living? Another thing that makes me and probably all leftists mad is when conservatives claim people live in poverty because they are lazy and don`t want to work. The people who make these claims do not the know the definitions of the words hardships and struggle.
