Means of subsistence

What are the means of subsistence? What needs to be subsisted and why? In marxist theory are the means of sustenance different from the means of subsistence? (I have seen both terms so I am a bit confused)

I'm not too familiar with the distinction if there is any in a Marxian context, but generally in Malthusian world view means of subsistance are food shelter and clothing (and I guess healthcare) i.e., anything that keeps workers from dying. The means of sustenance I always thought meant basically the same thing, although maybe there's a multi-generqational component (ie it is the resources required not only to keep 1 worker alive but 1 worker and their replacement alive).
