View Full Version : My struggle with inevitability

I am struggling with Marx's theory that Communism is inevitable (if indeed that is what he theorised; it is quite possible that I have read wrong). I think I am struggling to get on board with such an idea because it seems very fatalistic and gives very little weight to marital conditions of our time.

I understand that capitalism has 'contradictions' that doom it to a cycle of booms and busts, but I fail to foresee: first, a complete collapse of the system, and second, the reorganising of the world into communism, without significant struggle by the proletariat masses.

Perhaps someone could enlighten me to as what Marx really meant by Communism being inevitable and why people believe that it is inevitable.

Thank You

I think Marx meant that the material conditions that would enable communism were inevitable.

You are right, it will take significant organizing and struggling of the proletariat masses that's the whole point, that is why Marx called for a revolution.

I personally don't believe that something like communism is inevitable, we can't just sit around waiting for a revolution to happen while doing nothing to make it happen, it is something we must fight for but it will be worth it.
