Sometimes you feel like watching some sort of rugged anti-hero lower the burden on the legal system with unlimited amounts of ammunition and guns that rarely need re-loading. What are some of your favorite action films?
Mine:
"Running Scared" (the one with Paul Walker): this is seriously probably one of my favorite films of all time, I've watched it at least six or seven times and it doesn't get old. Which is strange because I can recognize that, objectively, the plot doesn't really make that much sense and I guess the movie in general is just kind of dumb, LOL, but...I don't know. I guess it's just the triumph of style over substance.
"Run & Kill": This one is from Hong Kong. It's about some Chinese veteran who came home from a violent border conflict with Vietnam back in the day, went crazy, then his brother gets killed, and he gets even crazier. An unlucky fat dude who unwittingly gets involved in the Chinese underworld is caught up in all this. The ending fight scene in this film is insane. Filmmakers in Hong Kong seem more daring than a lot of other filmmakers in some of what they portray.
"Hardboiled": Another one from Hong Kong, kind of a cliched choice though. Everyone likes this movie. The whole movie is basically just one giant shoot-out, with scenes stringing the viewer until the next massive shoot-out set piece. "The Killer" is another often mentioned one from John Woo, although that one attempts a more meaningful storyline. Whereas Hardboiled is just Chow Yun Fat with pistols in both hands and a toothpick in his mouth, wasting Triads by the hundreds.
"Centurion": This was a low-budget UK production about a legendary/mythic battle between Roman soldiers (who were almost entirely wiped out) and Pict barbarians. A review on the internet said it was made using the same budget that "Gladiator" alloted for their wardrobe alone. I think this was kind of an underrated film, though, and I think they did pretty good with it, especially for it's budget.
"Death Sentence": Kevin Bacon turns into a skinhead and slaughters drug dealers. It's kind of like "Death Wish", only with Kevin Bacon. I thought that it was going to be stupid, and I guess it kind of is, but it's entertaining too.
I also like many of the classics like Robocop, Conan the Barbarian etc. What are some of revleft's choices?
