View Full Version : Golden Dawm, Immigrants and the Left in Greece

Comrades have posted many things about how the Left groups have been organizing against GD, but I've also read about immigrants defending themselves against harassment and Muslim immigrants fighting GD after they attacked. But I don't have a very clear picture of what things look like, what groups and forces are at play.
So I guess I was wondering if someone could give a picture of what non-radical groups are doing, their relationship to radical efforts against GD, and what other forces have been organizing or resisting.
This could also be moved to the Learning section I suppose.

To add onto this, are the 'citizens organizations' - i guess you could call them that as a general term - affiliated with the GD?
Are there unaffiliated local anti-immigrant organizations of any type or have most of them been absorbed into alliances -open or secret- with openly fascist organizations, like the GD, in Greece?

Nothing. Except SYRIZA, which is obviously center-left and participates in antifascist demos and organizes the annual "Antiracist Festival" in which almost every left and immigrant organization participates- you dont want my opinion on that fest.
their relationship to radical efforts against GD,
What do you mean.
and what other forces have been organizing or resisting.
Nothing.

What do you mean "nothing" ?
In quite a few places local anti-fascist committees have been formed, with or without the initiative of radical parties or SIRIZA , students' councils or squats.

Not a single one without the initiative of a left force.

So, why aren't those groups involving themselves on it? Are they trying to appeal to racist notions of immigrant bashing in vague populist arguments?

I m sorry Rusty, I forgot to answer to you, forgive me please. :blushing:
Yes, they are. Most of them, even though nowdays they simply dont exist since GD dont need them anymore, are directly controled by GD.

Well, in some places people are afraid to defend immigrants and minorities. It's easier to cop out into right-wing bullshit about patriotism and parrot media rants about immigrants, or just outright ignoring it claiming it's not as important as other issues.
Back here in Texas the last gubernatorial election saw the Democrats for example largely try to compete with Republicans on who would be tougher on border control. They made very little attempt to connect to Latino communities, and this included the various volunteer groups who lean democrat.

I was asking if there was a similar issue with the parties that refer to themselves as "left" or what ever without any real marxist inclination.
I'm sorry if I'm getting you pissed off, I was just wanting to know the situation. I won't bother you anymore.

Yeah the same thing is happening in France, where the National Front has been raising in popularity, even over the left front(the "communist" party) in the presidential 2012 election. They are essentially the gd in france.

Anything with the word "National" or "Nationalism" is bound to be catering to racist immigrant-hating pieces of shit...

Well I guess that goes without saying. Also of notice is the UK independence party, which has like 11 seats in the European Parliament.

No, not really. I mean, SYRIZA has make discounts to its politics on the immigrants topic, but not to that point. It is clearly still an antiracist party, but with a humanistic point of view, not a class international.
And you are not pissing me off, dont be silly.
