On Easter Sunday, Google is honoring the birthday of the late labor organizer Cesar Chavez by placing a Chavez portrait within the middle o of the Google logo that appears on the homepage of the popular search engine.
While Google frequently decorates its logo to celebrate various holidays and special events, it is unclear why the company chose specifically to honor Chavezs birthday, instead of Easter Sunday.
Chavez co-founded the organization now known as the United Farm Workers union (UFW). He became an iconic figure in the labor movement, with his stature only increasing since his death in 1993.
President Barack Obama released a statement in 2011 (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/03/30/presidential-proclamation-cesar-chavez-day) proclaiming March 31 Cesar Chavez Day, declaring, I call upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate service, community, and educational programs to honor Cesar Chavezs enduring legacy.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt was an informal adviser to both of President Obamas presidential campaigns, a member of the Obama White House transition team in 2009 and a onetime prospect for an Obama Cabinet post during the presidents second term.
As The Daily Caller has reported (http://dailycaller.com/2012/12/06/googles-schmidt-would-bring-climate-activism-to-obama-admin/), Schmidt is also a steadfast climate-change activist, and has advocated for the complete termination of the oil, natural gas, and coal industries, and predicted that Washington, D.C. will soon be completely underwater due to climate change. Conservatives on Twitter have reacted angrily (http://twitchy.com/2013/03/31/google-celebrates-easter-with-cesar-chavez-birthday-tribute/) to Googles Chavez tribute.

God I love those conservative tears, and it's all because of a simple unionist.

Christians will become butthurt over anything just to get some attention it seems. After all, if the world is not revolving around them, and not kissing ass to their stolen-from-pagans papal-decreed chronologically-incorrect holiday, then their petty wrathful desert god will curse the country.

And people wonder why I can't stand christians?

I am watching Christians on my Facebook feed declare war on Google.:grin::crying:

It's sort of ironic that his name is Chavez.
It also raises the question on the marginalization of US "socially conservative" flank, considering that American corporations routinely do acts that offend them, from proclaiming their support of gay marriage to that. However, I don't want to dismiss the opposite trends, like the wtf-y North Dakota abortion ban.
Or do such easily provocable reactionaries serve a useful detraction function, even if unintentionally?

And people wonder why I can't stand christians?
Admittedly, not all Christians are like that. There're also wishy-washy liberal-protestant types.

I am a Christian but when i saw this I thought nothin of it its Cesar's birthday today and he was a good guy but when I saw the fights on facebook I just laughed
To be honest who cares if google or any company does something for easter
It is a sacred day to remember Christ but the best way to remember is in your heart and actions something conservatives have forgotten anyway
Feliz cumpleaos Cesar Chavez SI SE PUEDE

Some of the comments I've seen are so fucking stupid, I have to wonder how on earth any of them can use a computer.

The Madness of Cesar Chevez- and then they proceed to call him a fascist, zealot, and a bully.

What are google's labor practices? I tried to google it but figured if google was oppressing workers any more than the average corporation they'd snuff that info out on their google search engine. Are they saying zombie Chavez is raised from the dead? Do they stand in solidarity with farm workers? Are they just trolling right wing Christians?

Seriously. Somehow I don't think the decision to "honor Cesar Chavez's 86th birthday" was due to any sort of genuine support or solidarity with the cause and push towards the unionization of workers. Not sure how anyone around here could be so naive that anything the Google does could "make their day".
